Bookshelves- Styled and Profiled

Bookshelves- Styled and Profiled

Hey Friends!  Today I am revealing another small, but important project that I’ve crossed off our never ending to do list.

Styling small accessories used to be one of my least favorite aspects of designing (probably because I wasn’t very good at it).  Now, however, it is probably one of my favorite things to do!  I love playing with unique pieces, specific color palettes, and items of varying heights.  Design NERD right here! 🙂

Last time you saw our media center/shelf divider area, it looked like this. . .

We still have some intense work to do, like creating a fireplace surround and building the motorized TV incasement, but have no fear. . . our shelves are styled! Ha!  Check it out! 🙂

The bottom two shelves on each side are full of books.  Books are an easy option for shelf decorating. Most everyone has them, they are colorful, interesting, and often tell the story of what topics you are interested in.  🙂 FYI- not all my books tell the story of what I’m interested in. I buy books specifically for decorating sets, so I’ve got all sorts of stuff!

The other thing is that books look great from both sides! Obviously, one side is more colorful than the other, but both sides look interesting enough!

The third shelf from the bottom (on both sides) boasts a collection of vases, candle holders, and a couple of random pieces.  What I love about this collection is the color palette!  I chose metallic bronze, silver, and golds to go along with gray, white, greens, and violets.  I love the richness and contrast of it!

And once again it looks great from both sides. . .

Finally, I kept the top shelves simple.  I stacked some magazines and then added a bowl full of letterpress stamps on one side, and a model Tim made on the other.

My whole goal with decorating these shelves was to make the overall appearance pretty from both sides.  I wanted to make sure the third shelf (from the bottom) had the best look because it is right at eye level.  So, that’s why I chose to put the collection of vases there.

The whole space still bothers me because we have cords running everywhere, chairs to replace, more pieces to pick up, and the list goes on.  BUT, we are getting closer! 🙂  Yay for progress!

Oh yeah, you may be wondering about those frames hanging on the wall.  More on that to come! 🙂
