Dip Dyed Lampshade

Dip Dyed Lampshade

Today I am posting possibly the easiest tutorial in the history of DIYs!  For just $3 and 5 minutes of your time, you can add some real personality to your lampshades.

I gathered my materials: dye, large container filled with hot water, and a white lampshade.

Ready for the steps?

1. Put the dye into the container full of hot water and mix throughly.
2. Place your lampshade into the colored water.

Depending on how bright/bold you want the color will determine how long you leave the lampshade in the water.  Just check it every once and a while and when the desired hue is achieved. . .

3. Take the lampshade out of the dye and set it out to dry on some cardboard.  Some dye will drip out of the lampshade, so be aware when you are choosing a place to let the shade dry out.

And here’s what you’re left with . . . a super cool dip dyed lampshade perfect for all sorts of styles.

Now everyone can do this, no matter your budget or skill level!  I am doing a couple of these in a teal blue for a client soon!  I love dip dying! 🙂

‘Til tomorrow!

If you place small blocks of wood in varying heights and keep the time in the tub the same for each level, you can get a great ombre look. We did this same type of effect for a costume.

I’ve been trying to think of something to do to my lamp shades for the longest and this is perfect! I actually tried it out and blogged about it…linking to your instructions of course! You should go and check it out! Thanks again for the inspiration.
