Happy Wednesday! I hope you are doing something you love today, or at least working towards it!
I have said before, my favorite thing to do as far as design goes is to create that “WOW” factor! Often times, that comes in the form of a feature wall! Today, I am showing you how to create an easy, cheap, and fast feature wall that looks incredible. It’s just not that often that you come across an idea that fits into those four catagories (easy, cheap, fast, and good looking) and when you do it’s awesome!! Ding, ding, ding we’ve got a winner folks!!! 🙂
Ok, let’s get down to it. I started out with a black wall (you’ll have to imagine the plain black wall because I forgot to take a before pic). I wanted it to be black because I planned on making my stencil shapes silver and I wanted them to really POP! 🙂
Next, I cut my desired shape out of cardboard. For this project, it is best to go with a geometric shape, you’ll see why in a bit.
Next, I used chalk to trace the shape on my wall. Because I used the same cutout every time, things very easily stayed even and uniform.
Now, that you have your shapes drawn out, you are ready to define them. You may be thinking I’m going to whip out a can of paint, but you’d be wrong! No, I used foil tape to create this fantastic feature wall!! 🙂
I simply cut each piece to fit the line it was going on until the whole wall was finished!
The whole wall took about 2 hours from start to finish and cost me $10!!!!!
The purpose of this project was to create a backdrop for our photoshoot, but this wall will also look great when we set our furniture up and start living in the space!
You can totally customize this idea and make a shape more suitable to your taste or use a different tape or wall color! By keeping the shape geometric, the tape really works well. You may be wondering about the staying power of this look. Well, the foil tape I used (you can find it at hardware stores in the duct work section) sticks extremely well and will not come down unless I want it to.
So that’s it! What do you think? Are you going to create your own “WOW” factor feature wall? I sure hope so, and I hope you will share it with us! 🙂
I love this idea. I’ve been trying to think of a good way to do a feature wall in our bedroom. The idea of stenciling it just exhausted me. This is such a great alternative.
Big, bold and graphic…is there anything better? My husband and I just finished a similar project but used wood for a 3-D effect. Not quite as cheap!
I’ve been checking out wallpaper with a similar feel, not so budget friendly! Love it!!
This wall is amazing!
very cute wall – great job!
I love this…you could use various color combinations. There’s so many wild colored tapes out now too. I am totally going to do this in my studio.

love the idea… for some reason i wouldn’t look finished enough for me in a real feature wall at home. Sorry.
Great look for a set though.ben

I love this and want to do this! I featured it on my blog today! Thanks for the brilliant idea!!
This is so cool and fun! I love it!!!
Awesome!
I’m loving this idea! Just curious though- did it peel the paint off the wall when you took it off? I’m a renter and thought it would be fun to spice up a wall in our home; but don’t think our landlord would be thrilled with we took half the wall down when we left!
We haven’t taken ours down yet, so I can’t say for certain how it will turn out. I don’t think you will have an issue with paint peeling, but I would do a test piece. Find an incospicous area in a closet or somewhere similar and stick a bit of tape. Leave it for a few days or so and then see what happens when you take it off. Not all paints are as durable as other, but this should give you a good idea how yours will hold up.
Send us some pictures if you end up taking this on!
If you are concerned about pulling it off and damaging the walls. Try using a blow dryer as you pull off the tape, it softens the glue. A warm rag will also help.
Thanks! We haven’t gotten around to taking it down yet, I am secretly hoping Tim will let me keep it up for a while.
Wow! This is so cool! I love the shiny against the matte chalkboard. I’m a new follower. Found you through Hyphen Interiors!
How do you think this would look on a white wall?? I don’t think I’ll be able to paint in my apartment.
I don’t think the effect would be quite as dramatic, but I think it would definitely add some interest. Here is a post with pictures from a reader who did this on a lighter colored wall.

Let us know if you decide to do it and send us some pics or better yet post them to our facebook wall so we can share them with everyone!
Very Cool! Awesome idea!
