From Paper To Production

From Paper To Production

Hey Friends!  It’s 4:15 am and we are just climbing into bed.  We didn’t have a night out on the town, no we were hard at work creating some more fun stuff with the CNC machine tonight!  We have a room design coming up next week and we’re making sure we’ve got everything prepared so we can knock things out when the time comes.

For this particular project, the client really wanted a barn wood wall.  We love barn wood, but feel like that look has become a very common look as of late.  So, we decided we could still give our client the look she was going for, but spice it up a bit with a little high tech craftsmanship!  That’s when I drew out this picture.

It was simply a sketch and no where close to a finalized design, but that’s where I started.  Once I had a general idea of where I was going with the look, I created a graphic layout on the computer of the floral design I wanted.  It looked like this. . .

I created this file to be exactly how I wanted the end result to look. The frame and bull head will be separate pieces that I will add on top of the wall once it is in place.  Once I had my file created, Tim converted into the right file type and transferred it to the correct program so that we could program the design into the CNC machine!

Once the file was correctly uploaded to the machine, we sat back and stood in awe of what technology is available to us.  The CNC machine is basically a huge router and it’s precision is impeccable! Here’s half of the wood wall waiting for the CNC to rev up.

I am in love with the look!  We chose to use weathered wood so that when the CNC routed out the shapes it would reveal the fresh wood underneath, therefore making the floral shapes very obvious and pronounced!  We still have the top wall panel to do and then we’ll install!  Can’t wait to share the final look with you guys! Stay tuned! 🙂

Kara, I love your designs. You are such an inspiration. Your ideas are different and out of the norm. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us. This look would be perfect for our store’s sign. Could I find someone in my area with a CNC machine searching with google? Thanks again for the info and inspiration, Kristy

WOW! I love it! This is coming out great, you are so lucky to have that awesome machine! You’re putting it to great use 😀

How are the boards connected to one another, did you guys use a kreg jig?

Oh, I’m so glad you guys like it! Thanks for taking the time to comment! It makes our day!
Jesse- the boards are nailed to OSB to keep them all together and secure.
Kristy- finding someone with a CNC who is willing to take on design jobs might be tricky. Your local contractors might be the best source for finding a CNC and operator that will take on your project.

Oh my gosh I am in love! Just adore this idea and lucky me I have access to a Cabinetry company for whom I do work that has a CNC! This gives me so many other ideas…. oh now to find the time and $$$! Kara you are just amazing! Can’t wait to see your finished product….. 🙂
