Ok, so tell me if you get tired of hearing about Anthro. I just spend a lot of time there these days, so it seems natural for me to share what I’m doing during those hours.
One thing that sets Anthro apart from other retail stores is the care and effort they put into not only the displays, but the detail of the displays. Every thing in the store needs to be lovingly displayed, thoughtfully placed, and creatively highlighted.
Before I took the job I was a little nervous about the idea of spending my days making small little signs for different products in the store. I am more of a “big picture” kind of girl. However, I have learned that I do really enjoy putting those finishing touches throughout a display. It takes the feel of the space to a whole new level. Here are some detail shots of signage and other “special” things throughout the store.
Here is signage for the Nautically Styled Space- Message in a bottle. If you take the time to look, you may actually find a special message on the paper inside!
Here’s a plant tag made from a Wooden Spoon in the “Grocery Store Style” Area.
And here’s more special signage in the “Grocery Store Style” Area.
Also in the “Grocery Store Style” area are these painted wooden spoon people. There is no purpose to them besides giving the space that extra bit of whimsy! Who’s your favorite character?
Another detail.
I made these flower pins/broaches into a beautiful bouquet to show them off more than if they were sitting in a bowl.
Here an old sewing machine drawer serves to hold “Seed Bombs” while the signage appears to have wine splatters on it to coordinate with the cork theme in the area!
Even when there is a common circumstance, I don’t set out a standard “Caution” sign, I make something special up.
The next couple of photos are from the bedding area. The way the comforters are displayed is artful and interesting.
(Ms. Katherine is responsible for this set-up!)
And this is an example of the signs that I made to highlight each bedding style.
So, those are just a few ways that I have tried to make my Anthro store just a little more special. You can take this idea and do the same in your home. Label baskets and bins with cute chalkboard tags. Create a spice rack with old test tubes. Adorn your garden with homemade plant markers. The possibilities are endless and I’m sure you’ve got some great ideas worth sharing! Send them my way, I’d love to feature them!
I’m pretty sure I could never get tired of Anthro displays…I used to work there, and it never got old! = )
I love all the details 🙂 And I second what Caroline said about never getting tired of the displays 🙂
You posts about anthro make me want to take the hour+ drive to the closest one and buy it all up! I love ALL your work – thanks for sharing!
Oh good! I’m glad you gals like seeing/reading about the displays. I don’t have too much time for my own stuff these days. 🙂
I love all the details. It inspires me to find ways to include some unexpected little surprises in my home. I wish I could bring you home with me and pick your creative brain! =)
Kara, I was there last week and saw your “bouquet” of flower pins- it immediately caught my eye and I saw someone else go right to them too. Great idea- I probably wouldn’t have looked at them otherwise! 🙂
Love seeing your work!
Jill
Thanks Jill! Glad to hear the idea attracted some attention!!
Lisa, I’d love to come home with you! 🙂
I love the legs on the spoons! So much fun! I want to paint legs on all my wooden spoons now! 🙂
