Have you noticed the Ombre trend going on for a while now? “Ombre” is a french word that means, “shaded or the blending of shades.” This beautiful look has made it’s statement on the runways and now it’s heading for our homes.

Now, don’t the mistake of confusing ombre coloring with tie-die. These are two different animals completely and as far as I know tie die is not on it’s back “in.” Ombre boasts a soft and gradual blending of colors rather than the distinct colors and patterns that are visible in tie-dye.
Can you see the difference?
Actually tie-dyed patterns are created by tying or bunching fabric up and then dying whereas the Ombre effect is created by dip dying fabric.
The Ombre look is being applied to the interior design world in every way possible. Curtains, bedding, pillows, rugs, and more. The look is even being replicated with paint on pieces of furniture and walls.

I love these dip dyed curtains at this Hotel in London. They look so elegant, yet effortless!

This dresser has a beautiful painted ombre look. You can find it here.
In this room, David Bromstad did a gorgeous ombre paint treatment on the wall. So beautiful!!!
This trend is even being applied to Hollywood starlets hair treatments. Some are more dramatic than others.

I kind of love how this girl took it a step further with some real color! Not sure I could do it to my hair, but she is totally rocking it!!

I think I am going to have to do some dip dying this weekend! How do you guys and gals feel about this look?
I’m loving this look for decor, but not the hair…it just looks like they haven’t had their roots touched up! I’ve been wanting to try it since it was on Martha a few months ago (http://www.marthastewart.com/307077/ombre-sheets). I can’t wait to see what you come up w/!
I love that little dresser! So cute! I’ve had a paint chip with three shades of blue up on my bathroom wall for almost a year now, and just last night I was thiking, “maybe it would be cool to replicate the paint chip on the wall with horizontal stripes…” Little did I know that was a design trend with a cool french name! 🙂
I love ombre! I’ve even seen a photo of nails painted ombre, with each fingernail painted a shade deeper as it progresses across.
The whole trend is one that’s very fun! I hadn’t even thought about DIY curtains, but now I think I will!
LOVE it. Love it in fashion, in my packaging design and am SO happy it’s migrating into home!!
Awesome! I’ve been sitting here this morning trying to decide if I want to dip dye some curtains for my dining room or make bold stripes and then see your post! A sign maybe?
I did an ombre armoire for my studio but its nothing compared to that freaking awesome scalloped one.
What about ombre bridesmaids!I need to google that. I seriously can’t stop thinking about ombre. My brain always does this on friday. It goes into overload thinking about all of the time I have for projects on the weekends.
Maybe I should clarify that. Not like an ombre dress but each bridesmaid has a different shade and the bride in white. Too bad I’m already married! It could be soo pretty. Sorry for all the comments! Ha. Like I said…
Brain + Friday = Overload.
love the rainbow ombre hair..too fun!
