Last year Amanda contacted me to help design her newly expanded music business on Tulsa’s “oh so hip” Cherry St. If you missed the changes we made back then, CLICK HERE to check it out. Well, not too long ago Miss Amanda needed a few more fun ideas to gussy up her guitar lesson room. You may notice the pictures seem a little dark. The room is low lit which is the perfect moody atmosphere for a musical space, but not so perfect for pictures- so please excuse me if the details are somewhat hard to see! 🙂
The building Amanda works from has gone through many changes over the years and those changes left the guitar room with 2 blocked in windows and one boarded up door. See below.
Amanda wanted to find the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to work around/hide these 3 problem areas. So, I came up with a few ideas. Check them out!
I made the former window a purposeful shelving unit used to hold sheet music and lesson books. And the blocked doorway now serves as a full size chalkboard that instructors can use to teach their students. Now, instead of appearing like issues we had to work around, these areas seem as if they were planned and intentional all along.
I covered the window with some stunning stain-grade plywood. I chose a dark walnut stain to contrast against the metal shelving I created. Then, I built a box around the whole thing to frame it out and make it look like a beautiful built-in!
On the other side of the room, I stuck with dark stained plywood and metal material to ensure a nice flow through the room. Guitars are works of art in themselves, so I wanted to make sure they were properly displayed and easily accessed. Here is the final product. . .
I wanted to amp up the cool factor, so I made the entire installation glow from behind.
So with a little imagination and creative talent even the most unappealing eye sores can be turned into functional and fabulous focal points!!! Let me know if I can help you with any design dilemmas of your own!

Love the shelving and the chalkboard idea.
