SHABBY CHIC REDEMPTION

SHABBY CHIC REDEMPTION
I thought I would travel back in time a bit and show all you makeover lovin’ dudes and dudettes one of the first pieces of furniture I ever refinished. I was in college and with basketball, school, and sleep demanding most of my time I was not able to do a lot of “hands on” design work. But during some down time, I managed bring this (possibly 1920’s) dresser back to life. I wasn’t as concerned with before pictures then, so I found this photo online of a dresser that seems to be in about the same condition that mine was.

I spied my deeply distressed dresser sitting on the side of the road. It was missing a drawer and there was about 5 different layers of paint chipping off. I seemed to be a lost cause.

BUT. . . after a little tender lovin’ care this gem was ready for its close-up.

I solved the missing drawer dilemma by replacing the top two with wicker baskets. This choice makes the special touch look intentional rather than born out of necessity.

I didn’t want a plain ol’ piece of furniture you could find anywhere so I found some lovely decorative paper and brought out another blast from the past- MOD PODGE!!

Since half of my house is out of commission (not for long though!!!) I haven’t been able to properly display this shabby chic showpiece. Although I think I could find a fitting place for it, I am convinced it would look FAB in a little girl’s room or a nursery! And since I am not planning on having to decorate one of those for myself anytime soon, I am considering selling this lovely looker!! Let me know if you are interested!!

And remember. . . DO WHAT YOU LOVE!!!

Really adorable!! How did you reinforce the drawer glides so you could sit a basket in there?

Im looking for a dresser a little like this one myself so I can add to my bedroom. I need an open top drawer so I can put my cable box in there and out of site. Its harder to find just the right thing than I realized!
