Living Room Update

Living Room Update

The past few weeks, I’ve been revealing some different projects we’ve taken on in our living room.  We’ve  covered:

The Beams/Media Center/Shelves
The Lathe Wall
and The Coffee Table Change

I thought now would be a good time to do a post showing our progress so far.  This is what our space looked like before we moved any of our stuff in. . .

For the first month or so, we were simply making sure we had a place to sleep, work, and use the restroom.  So we set up the basic furniture in the living room and it stayed that way for a while.  This is what it looked like during that time. . .

Over the past 6 months, we have made a plan and slowly started implementing it.  You know about the lathe we recycled to give the wall behind the sofa some texture.  Besides that I also hung some long purple curtains to draw your eye up to the great height of the space. I still need to make a cornice board to cover the window hardware.  One day (probably not in the near future) that will get done.

I am still debating the rug.  I will wait to make a decision on it until I have the wall painted and decorated with art.

Directly opposite of the couch is the shelving/media unit.  As you can see below, we still need to style the shelves, create the fireplace surround, and build the panel that will move the TV up and down.

You probably noticed the big clump of wires sitting below the mantle.  Someone asked how we planned on addressing the cords since the TV will swivel and be accessible to both the living and the dining room.  Well, I’ll wait to explain how we will make the wires disappear until I have photos to help me, but they certainly will be concealed.

I really feel like this portion of our space is coming along!  It’s nice to have a few areas that feel put together, even though they’re far from finished.

I hope you like what you’re seeing!  More to come!

FYI- I never really got my tree decorated the way I wanted, so that’s why you’re not seeing it until now.  Maybe next year I’ll get it right and want to show it off.

Its coming along for sure! And if its any consolation to you, you’re doing alot better than we are. We’ve lived in our (1860) home for nine years now and we’re still not done. Having to do things ourselves, on a tight budget, on the weekends always equals MUCH longer projects. My motto is “as long as we’re living here we’ll never be bored.”

Everything looks fab! I think your tree looks adorable, btw. I have a white tree too,but I think I might add more candy colors next year like yours. Mine is mostly teal, blue, and yellow with a fair amount of DIY ornaments. I just didn’t get my act together early enough this year and only got a tree topper put together before Xmas. Oh, and I really hope you plan on sharing how you made your faceted mantle. I love it and want one in my life.

Thanks Caroline! And thanks for your opinion on the rug! I think it’s going to work, but I want to make sure I don’t have too much going on in the space when everything is complete.
