A Firewood Fire Place & A Bubble Wrap Chandelier

A Firewood Fire Place & A Bubble Wrap Chandelier

Happy Monday Friends!  Forgive me for being M.I.A. on Friday.  We were up until the wee hours of the morning setting the stage for our DIY Christmas Decor “classes” at a local event called Vintage Market Days.  I always want to put my best design foot forward if at all possible so instead of just setting up a few tables to showcase our DIY projects, I chose to install a backdrop that would speak to the out of the box designers that we are! 🙂  After some brainstorming, planning, a few days of cutting, and a night of building, we ended up with this. . .

Since the event and our projects were mostly focused on Christmas ideas, I thought it would be nice for the set design/backdrop to have that homey Christmas-y feel.  I think Christmas and fireplaces are pretty much like peanut butter and jelly- a perfect match! 🙂  But instead of bringing in a real mantle and setting up something that looked like a legitimate fireplace, we went for a more abstract idea.

We built the mantle by bascially stacking firewood logs on top of each other.  I wanted the piece to feel somewhat open since we were in the middle of the space, so I created two voids where the fire would normally be as well as above the mantle.

I love metallics (especially around the holidays) and I wanted the wood to pop a little more, so I opted to paint three silver stripes on the piece.  I love the look of wood painted with metallics! 🙂

The other main piece of the set up was the chandelier.  Can you tell what it’s made of?

You guessed it.  Bubble wrap made this piece possible! 🙂 Bubble wrap and my sweet mom! (THANKS MOM!)  My mother literally cut bubble wrap for hours so that I would have enough to complete the piece.  I hope she agrees the final product was worth the work! 🙂  I love the wintery look the bubble wrap provides and how the different layers add dimension.  What do you think!?
