Nat’s Buffet Before and After

Nat’s Buffet Before and After

Happy Monday Friends!  I wanted to start the week with a fun little mini makeover!  After posting this picture from our sizzle reel shoot last week, I had a few questions from people asking if this is a room I have revealed before.

I actually have not revealed this room on the blog just yet.  We are working on finding two end chairs for the dining table and then I will go take some final photos.  However, while we were shooting on one side of the room, I did manage to get a picture of the other side of the space which holds a refinished buffet.

Natalie and Garth are really lucky to have a number of pieces from their grandparents in the house.  I love to use pieces with a history, so when Natalie mentioned we could either use the piece or look for something new I strongly suggested that we keep it in the space.

Sometimes people are very hesitant to paint older wood pieces, but I say if it makes you love your space more, it’s totally worth it!  Of course there are some true, valuable antiques out there who’s worth would be diminished by painting them, but those pieces are few and far between.

I actually used the Annie Sloan chalk paint on this piece.  It was my first time to use the paint and I was a little skeptical about how the paint would adhere to the previously glossy surface.  But, so far (a couple of months later) the finish is still looking great!  🙂  Also, I have a great money saving tip for you today!  If you’ve used chalk paint (not chalkboard paint) before you know that you do a top coat of wax to finish off the piece.  Annie Sloan sells a wax that is around $28, but you can buy Minwax’s Finishing Wax for $10.  It works exactly the same way and will save you a nice chunk of change! 🙂

Now Natalie and Garth have a piece that not only honors their grandma, but also adds a contemporary and cheerful feel to the space!  So paint away people! You’ll be glad you did! 🙂

Lovely! I love Annie Sloan chalk paint! And I just have to say that while you can save money with the minwax I think Annie’s is worth the extra money. I use a brush to put it on (i bought Annie’s brushes) and it uses less wax than the minwax. I have that exact same minwax and it would be difficult to use a brush. Just my opinion!

I love it, and love the knocked over doll stroller in front of the buffet in the before picture. Non-styled houses are the best!
