I’m a bit exhausted from weeks of work, so I know I promised a DIY tutorial today, but photo editing and writing that requires clear thinking would take a couple hours of time that I just can’t give right now. Luckily, I had a guest post on stand by and it’s very informative and helpful! 🙂

All of us are aware of the coupon craze that started a while back and has continued, thanks to shows like “Extreme Couponing.” Well, I’m not one to stock up on 50 boxes of soap or hundreds of deodorant sticks, but if you can save me money at my favorite home supply or decor stores- I’m all ears!

Today, Ella Davidson from Coupons.org is going to share some great ways to gather coupons for your next home project! Take it away Ella!

Hey Guys! Home improvement is inevitably a costly enterprise. When it comes time for a large-scale renovation project—or even when you’re just shoring up details around the house—spending some time hunting down coupons in advance can be a fruitful endeavor. But where are the best places to find coupons for home improvement goods and services in particular? It will take some snooping around the web to find exactly what you need, but here are some helpful starting points:

• If you’re planning a long-term project, consider joining a club associated with a big-name retailer like the Home Depot Pro Club or Garden Club. You can sign up to receive a newsletter including not only exclusive coupons and savings but also helpful ideas tailored to your location and desired level of complexity. Joining also gets you in touch with a community of similarly interested home-improvers—talk to them and learn where they find their deals!

• Make use of mailing lists to stay in-the-know. The popular big-name websiteGroupon offers one-a-day coupons for local businesses that can save you 50%-90%. Most of these coupons won’t apply to the exact home improvement items you need, but if you keep an eye on your inbox you may well find a gem! Many of the websites mentioned in the above point also provide an option to enter your email address in order to receive updates—at CouponCabin, for example, you can sign up to receive updates on deals customized to suit your favorite categories!

• If you plan on getting work done on a home you’ve just moved into, you can pick up some exclusive coupons by changing your address online through the United States Postal Service’s website. Capitalize on this opportunity quickly—it won’t be around forever!
• Check out some of the more generalized websites that deal in printable coupons or coupon codes. Many of these allow you to search either by the store’s particular name—Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc.—or by category—“home improvement” or whatever specific items you need for you project, say “bathroom accessories.” These sites can help you find codes for online savings or coupons you can print out to use in-store:

These can pinpoint your location via GPS and guide you to nearby deals at big brand retailers as well as local businesses—buying from a close source is a good way to avoid the high shipping costs associated with many home improvement supplies!

• Although it may seem archaic in this fast-paced, web-based world, it’s important to remember that most newspapers still include a section of good old printed coupons. If you really want to get into the world of couponing, put together a basic kit (binder, paper cutter, paper clips, shelves/drawers or some other way to organize your stockpile) and get to clippin’!
