Hey Friends! Today I am revealing a fireplace before and after! Not long ago Tim posted this pic. . .
Tim got a lot of great feedback about the drum table (which is what the picture was about) but we also got a lot of comments about the chevron fireplace in the background! 🙂 Well today I am ready to reveal the fireplace in its entirety plus give you a little insight into how we did it. Shall we take a look at the before first? I think so!

Fun right?! There’s a lot of personality in this room (which I will fully reveal later this week) but the fireplace is definitely the show stopper! 🙂
Now I know you are all ready to paint your fireplaces, so here’s a quick run down of our process.
1. We painted our background color- we chose black.
2. I took a stack of regular computer paper (8.5X11) and cut it in half long ways, which gave me a bunch of 4.25X11 inch pieces.
3. I taped the pieces together to create the chevron/zig zag pattern. Just like Dana did here! Hint- You overlap the paper ends to get a more squatty look or butt up the paper ends for a bit taller look.
4. Next we taped the pattern up on the fireplace. Once it’s in place and level (very important!) we used a pencil to draw the pattern onto the brick.
5. Then we removed the paper pattern and used painter’s tape to create the painting boundaries.
6. Finally we got to painting! But not with the color you would expect. We used back again to “seal” our edges. Basically this just ensures that if there is going to be any leakage underneath the tape, it is with the background paint color.
7. Since the edges were sealed, we were ready to paint our 2nd color (which was white).
8. It took a couple coats, but once we got good coverage we pulled the tape before the paint dried! Pulling the tape before the paint assures the tape won’t take a chunk of dried paint with it.
And we ended up with this! 🙂
So, what do you think?! Such a bold choice might not be right up your design ally, but hopefully you can agree- in the right space a black and white chevron fireplace is totally rad! 🙂
