Garage Sale Console Becomes Our Bathroom Vanity

Garage Sale Console Becomes Our Bathroom Vanity

I said I would be revealing the bathroom vanity makeover soon.  Well, last night I got a flash of energy and got things cleaned up and ready for a close-up!

For this piece, I wanted something that provided a lot of storage.  As much as I try, I can’t seem to dwindle down all my bathroom products and the penny pincher in me can’t just get rid of items I know I will eventually use.  So, although I like the look of open shelves, a vanity with concealed storage was a must.
When designing spaces, I much prefer to move at a fast pace.  However, the good thing about taking your time is that fact that you can wait to find that perfect piece at the right price.  That idea proved true when I found this piece of furniture at a garage sale for $20!!! I loved it’s modern lines, and the fact that I could stuff it full of beauty products solved my bathroom storage dilemma!

As you can see, we made some modifications in order for the piece to become a bathroom vanity.  The piece received a coat of paint, a new countertop (that would hold up to moisture), and a vessel sink!

Since Emerald Green is the color of the year, I decided to give it a try.  I ran over to Spectrum Paint and grabbed the a quart of Benjamin Moore’s Kelly Green color.  Because I really didn’t want to sand, I decided to make my own chalk paint by adding a couple tablespoons of grout and a little water.

In no time, the piece was a gorgeous green.  I also added a bit a glaze to dull down the finish a bit!

Now, to the countertop!  I’ll give you one guess of what material we went with.

Hello, my name is Kara and I am an ARDEX addict.  Yes, we chose to go with our favorite product yet again!  It’s just so easy, inexpensive, and we love, love the look!  Can you really blame us?!

You may have noticed this countertop is not gray!  Well, we’ve figured out how to add custom coloring our ARDEX projects.  It’s as easy as adding this powder pigment to your ARDEX product before mixing it with water!

So, what do you think? Our bathroom is coming together, but we still have some amazing things planned for this space!! 🙂

That is amazing! I die for that kelly green. And the color of the counter tops is just perfection. GREAT – now I need a kelly green bathroom vanity! 😉 Pinned!

The concrete-coated countertop is such a great idea! I’m planning on concrete counters for our kitchen remodel, and I’ve been DREADING the process. But seeing your project makes me think, why not just make wood countertops and coat them with ARDEX? It seems so much easier, and will probably be faster, cheaper, and less messy as well! I’ll be looking into it a little more, but thank you so much for this info–you’ve given me hope that maybe some parts of this remodel will actually be easier than planned. 🙂

Hi, thanks for posting your projects. Have you ever used ARDEX SD-M, and tried staining it with a spray on stain after it has dried?

    Thanks
