Hey Friends! I’m excited because this weekend we finally marked a project off our list that we’ve been working on for about three weeks. Lately, we haven’t been able to dedicate whole days to projects, so we do a little here and little there until we finally have a finished piece!
With our loft like home, we don’t have a ton of storage space available to us. So, we have to get creative when it comes to keeping our clutter out of sight. Instead of building out whole closets, we are choosing furniture options with storage space as well as designing and building creative storage solutions!
For example, you know that we have been using our paint chip panels as art in the office/dining area.
Well, the plan has always been to build out that wall a bit to make room for some shelves, which would be hidden by the panels. Here are some photos to take you through our process of bringing this design to life. . .
So, this is what you will see when looking into the space. . .
But this is what will be hiding behind those panels. . .
That’s a ton of storage, right!? How ever will I fill all those shelves? Haha- I don’t think I’ll have a problem with that! As you can see, I’ve started to gather all the items I would like to store in the space. . .
We used large piano hinges that allow the two panels on the outside to open like doors, as you can see below.
The middle panel is completely removable. We did this because the table placement would not allow for the panel to swing open.
The frame of the middle panel simply “hooks” around the edges of the shelving unit. Does that make sense?
A couple of the shelves are fixed in place, but most of them are moveable to make sure the spaces are able to fit whatever it is we want to store!
So now I get to fill all the shelves, which makes me weirdly excited!! I love when everything has a place to live! Right now, the plan is for the unit on the left to hold office/design supplies. The unit on the right will hold our fashion accessories (jewelry, scarfs, ties, purses, ect). And the middle unit will hold a ton of small home decor items that I keep around for photo shoots and commercials.
Yay! So excited! I’ll talk to you guys later- I’ve got some organizing to do! 🙂
Fantastic idea!!!
I love it!! It add so much life to space and is so functional.
Could you put that middle door on a track or something so that you don’t have to remove it completely to get to the stuff behind it? That way you would just have to open one of the doors and then slide the middle door over.
It is so awesome!!
I love it! What are the panels made of? Plywood?
geius! absolute genius.
