Spindle Candle Holders

Spindle Candle Holders

Hey Y’all!  Today I have another Christmas decor idea to share!  Lighting is always important when you are trying to create ambience.  During the holidays especially, I like to use candle light to bring in that comforting, homey, and special occasion feel to my home!  You can find all sorts of candle sticks out there, but today I’m showing you how to make some with real charm for just a few dollars!

The directions for these candle sticks are almost identical to the Jewelry Display Stands that I did for Anthropologie and The Nate Show.

First, gather your materials.  Here’s what you need:

– wooden circle (or square) plaques- find them at your local craft store for $1
– wooden spindles- you can use old chair pieces, table legs, or stairway spindles)
– paint and/or ribbon (if desired)

You will also need a drill and a 3/4 inch spade bit, which look like this. . .

Once you have your materials gathered, each candle stick should only take a few minutes to assemble. Here’s how you do it!
1. Cut your spindle(s) down to the heights you want. You can use a chop saw or hand saw to do this. Tip- If you are going to cluster a few together, cut them at different heights to add interest!
2. Screw a plaque to the bottom of your spindle. You should pre-drill the spindle to make sure the wood doesn’t crack.

3. Next, you need to drill the out the top of the spindles to make room for the candle.

4. After that, use paint and ribbon to embellish your candlestick to fit your style.

5. Last, put the candle in place and start creating that cozy feel in your space.  When using candlesticks, I like to create groupings to really add impact.

One of my favorite place to pick up spindles is at flea markets.  You can find a variety of options for very low prices.  As a matter of fact, I made 5 candle sticks for a total of $12!

Now, it’s your turn! 🙂

I emailed you about the Spectrum paint, but just wanted to comment hear also to make sure my email went through. I couldn’t make it out to the expo this past weekend, but hope it went well!

Had such a great time seeing you guys at the Expo! We went to a couple of flea markets afterward, and I did see several spindles (which I had never noticed when shopping before!). 🙂 I am so excited to decorate for Christmas this year thanks to all your inspiring ideas!
