‘TIL DESIGN DO US PART- EP 1-DORM ROOM DESIGN

Today Tim and I are excited to unveil our very first ‘Til Design Do Us Part© episode! We had a blast creating it! Although we could definitely benefit from some nicer equipment we are pleased with what we were able to create with our outdated camera and I-Movie editing.

We know many of you can hardly find the time to eat lunch much less watch a video- but it would absolutely mean the world to us if you could carve out 10 minutes of your time and support us as we follow our dreams! Please, please leave a comment and let us know what you thought! We know we have a lot to learn, so constructive criticism is welcome!

So, without further ado we present Episode #1 (which is hopefully the first of many)! 🙂
Next week, I will provide full how-to tutorials for all the pieces we created in this video- so stay tuned!

Your designs are INCREDIBLE! I love how you do budget friendly designs that don’t look cheap and like they will fall apart immediately. I also love that your dorm style is college-friendly, but lacks the cheesy factor that most dorm decor hosts! My only comment on the video is for Kara to watch the “jazz hands”. Its a little distracting! But you guys are both cute and fun!

Great job on the video and the room! I enjoyed watching and am looking forward to many more episodes.
As far as a winner? Are you really going to make me pick? They were both great. My favorite elements were the roof flashing magnet strips and the paper lantern. For overall design, I have to go with Kara, but only because I liked some of the individual pieces more – such as the mirror and the chair.
Can’t wait to see what else you two come up with!

Awesome job and very creative. You might want to watch the arm movements with every time you were speaking Kara. And Tim, relax. Other than that. GREAT. Design ideas were awesome. My favorite was Kara’s just because I loved the colors, and pieces. However, I thought Tim did a great job doing a guy’s room. The roof flashing was a great idea. Question: is it sharp on the edges would it be safe in a kids room?

I liked both rooms, but I have to go with Kara’s design, probably because I am a girl. An OU flag instead of an American flag may have swayed me though… Can I ask where that cute lamp is from? And is that the original lampshade or did you DIY that too? I agree with Carissa’s comment about the jazz hands, but overall very cute and fun!!

I love both designs and I really enjoyed your video. However, I am sorry to gripe about something that ate at me for the length of the video. The flag hung over the boy’s bed does not follow flag etiquette. The union (field of stars) should be hanging in the upper left. Seeing the flag hung improperly literally makes me grind my teeth because I read about those who give their lives for us each week in the Navy Times (I’m a military spouse). I know that you both are very wonderful and patriotic folks from reading your 4th of July post. So, if you could just let people know that our flag is sacred and that there is an etiquette associated with its presentation… I mean this only constructively, not to be a meanie!

Awesome video! I loved it! Y’all both did such a great job with the design and your presentation. Very impressive! I have to go with Kara because I loved the headboard idea!

What a cute video – and catchy music too!
I tried a lot of dorm decor when I was in school but I always outgrew it from one year to the next – hot pink and neon as a freshman just doesn’t work as a Junior. I love how these rooms are honest to the gender and not a slave to the back to school color choices at the big box shops.
I’m going to vote for Tim because I like how he carried the stripes throughout the room – the flag to the drawers on both the dresser and the desk and then the roof flashing – it made that side look consistent all the way around.
I also like how the both of you chose tasteful color schemes and picked two or three colors to carry around the room – that keeps cost down.

Great job guys!! Hmm, too hard to pick a favorite, they both turned out awesome! I guess I’d go with Kara’s though, really love that unique headboard idea. Have to say both designs are way better than the neon dorm accessories being sold in the big box stores right now!

Loved the video! You guys are soo cute!!

    Such a cute video;)
I LOVE both rooms, i love the lamp in Kara`s room and that very unike rug in Tim`s side of the room!
    You both are great!
I hope you will do many more videos for your readers!

    Lovely greetings…

Great Job guys! Had a fun time watching your video and seeing you two hard at work. Kara’s side looked like it took a little more work than Tim’s, but I think a girl would be more likely to do that. It is such a tough decision! I vote for both!

You guys are GREAT! I loved what you did. I hate picking sides, but…im going to have to go with Kara on this one…Tim yours was cool too, for a guy…even though i know a guys room would not look that neat for very long..Kara love the color scheme/theme…AND the headboard and light/shade! so CUTE and DIY.
My constructive criticism would to not be so rehearsed/staged, but “go with the flow” and be you.:)(and ditto with the “show hands/hands on hips”) you 2 are a cute couple and work great together.

As a fellow believer and child of GOD, it’s always refreshing to see other christians not being afraid to shine their “Jesus lights” and use the gifts that God gave them for His glory, and not their own.You 2 are a blessing, thanks for what you do, and keep having FUN!

Great job! Lots of wonderful ideas. I had been wondering how you made that delightfully fluffy light fixture for your guest room! Coffee filters? The wonders of your imagination never cease. If I had to pick just one word to describe your style it would be innovative!

The video was great! I loved the music and you both did a great job. I really appreciate that your projects are budget-friendly. I vote for Kara but Jason votes for Tim so we are a wash. Sorry! : ) Can’t wait for more!

  14. Kara Paslay

Thanks so much for the input and comments everyone, please keep them coming! We will definitely keep working on our presentation skills and hopefully continue to get better and better! 🙂

I loved the video. You both are extremely talented designers! I especially love your creative craftiness. The hosting and banter between you two were great! I have to go with Kara, but I know my husband would like Tim’s side. This would be a great show on HGTV. I don’t think they have any husband and wife teams, do they?

  16. Holly

Okay, both of these were great for several reasons… Tim’s guy dorm wasn’t as “decorated” as Kara’s because, well, guys just don’t put as much thought into this stuff. Which, in my opinion, is what made it so great. Keeping it real. And Kara’s room for a girl was just as amazing. If I were going to college I’d draw some serious inspiration from it! Seriously, I can’t place a vote for one or the other… in order to vote it’d have to be the same thing – you know, two guy rooms or two girl rooms. Overall, great job you guys!

  17. Erin

love both sides. and would have gladly taken either during my college dorm days. however, i think Tim’s design seemed a bit more functional, and plus i liked his patriotic color scheme 🙂

  18. Julia

Adorable! I loved the video and your intro. Both rooms turned out great. Keep making these please! We’re about to cancel cable, and your Episodes will be the perfect short design show for a momma like me. Thanks a bunch.
