Happy Friday Friends!!!
As you know, I don’t just design rooms. Sometimes I get to focus my creative energies on window installations, retail displays, or tv sets. This week, I am adding to that list and designing a tattoo! For who???? Me!!!!! I know some of you are already nervous or screaming, “Don’t do it!” Hey I totally get it- that’s why I’ve been contemplating this decision for over a year and I’m taking all the time I need to make sure the design is exactly what I want.
I’ve been saving pictures and pinning items……

I have a list of things that I would possibly like to include in the artwork…..and so far this is what I’ve come up with…..

This would wrap around my upper arm and extend from my shoulder to just above my elbow. I like the idea of a colorful topography map being the base layer. The map would be of where I met Tim or where I became a christian…..I think. Peonies are my absolute favorite flower and I’m relying on them to keep everything feeling feminine. You might be thrown by the ampersand. Well, I’ve loved this symbol for a while. To me it represents the fact that I never give up, that the story is never over. I am not finished, I have not failed, there is always an opportunity for me to choose to add “and” to the end of a sentence.
So, that’s where I am now. I’m not sure if I have enough or too much to fill a half sleeve. I’m also trying to decide on color! Here’s a little video I made to try and decide on a color for the ampersand….
Some of you might be wondering why I want a tattoo in the first place. Well, just like the rooms I design, I feel like it’s an opportunity to share my story and my art with the world. I am not nervous about regretting the decision, only about how much it’s going to hurt!!! :/
If any of you has thoughts or suggestions about elements, color, or how to handle the pain- I’d love to hear them!

I love the topography map with the peonies! I feel like you could go with black lines for the map and the soft peonies would really balance each other out, but would totally fit your bold style. (quick disclaimer before i say this: This is totally personal preference/my opinion and I get that all styles are different and this is your body and you rock as a designer so whatever you pick will be awesome…) I love the story behind the ampersand, but I feel like putting it right in the middle draws most of my focus to it. I know it will look different as a tattoo, but I personally would stick with the map+peonies as enough for the outside of the half sleeve and then put the ampersand on the inside of the sleeve in another bold color (I’m all about that emerald green). Anyways, I love this idea for a tattoo for you and I can’t wait to see what it looks like.
I think it’s beautiful. As long as you love it and it has meaning to you, that’s all that matters. I have a tattoo on my thigh, and I was really worried about the pain, but honestly it didn’t really hurt…more of an annoying sensation. The more “meat” you have on an area, the less it hurts, or so I’m told – so I should think an upper arm wouldn’t be as bad as something like ribs. Can’t wait to see the final product!
