A Series About Survival And Getting Through Tough Times

A Series About Survival And Getting Through Tough Times

Happy Monday Friends!  🙂  Last week I had the opportunity to work on a wonderful project.  Some of you may remember that I decorated a set for a book turned TV series by Max Lucado earlier this year.  (PS-You can actually watch this series on TBN at 6 on Monday nights or Thursdays at 3:30!) Well, last week, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Max again to create a series for a new book he will be releasing!

If you’ve never read any of Max’s books, I definitely encourage you to give them a try.  I’ve been a fan of Max since high school and his books have made a profound difference in my life.  As a matter of fact, I was able to read the manuscript for this newest book and I felt like the truths and encouragements I found in it were very timely. 🙂

The new book centers around a story of restoration and getting through tough times.  Obviously we can all relate to going through rough patches in life and Max provides plenty of stories and words of wisdom to help those of us that need encouragement and Godly advice.

My job was to tell the story(ies) with the set decor.  If you’re familiar with Bible stories you know that Joseph was one of the most persevering people who ever lived.  We wanted to portray his journey from “the pit to the palace,” which is where the rock wall and the ornate thrown come into play.  The rock wall and rope represent the pit, while the thrown set-up represents the time Joseph spent in the palace.

Joseph also spent time in prison and Max tells a story about a POW in the series, so we created a jail set-up to represent this.

You may have noticed the large loom in front of the pit/rock wall.  This loom represents the fact that God is the master weaver and can take the pain and the pleasures from your life, weave them together, and somehow come out with a beautiful design, something good and useful.  The colorful rug on the loom is made from rags- something I would not consider good or beautiful, but somehow when the weaver brings these pieces together, it creates a lovely tapestry full of functional beauty.

Another feel we wanted to portray was a kind of “Indiana Jones/survivor” feel.  I think that idea was fleshed out with the rock wall and lanterns as well as this set-up below.

There were also props that moved on and off the set depending on the episode we were shooting.  Here are a few of the set-ups.  You’ll have to watch the show to see what the stories behind these props are! 🙂

This was probably my favorite set-up. . .

So, that’s what I was up to last week!  I’ll be sure to post when the series airs in case any of you guys are interested in tuning in! 🙂

‘Til tomorrow! 🙂
