Happy Friday Friends! Today I am going back in time a bit and sharing about one of my favorite things we did while we were vacationing in London this summer. We actually liked London a whole lot more than Paris and I am quite sure that had a lot to do with the fact that we had friends (like best, we grew up with these people friends) that lived in the English city to help show us around and take us to all the best restaurants. One thing Mat and Kelsey suggested doing was having a traditional Afternoon Tea. We were excited to experience this English custom, especially when they mentioned that pastries were involved! 🙂 So, we (along with 2 other couples) headed to the Ampersand Hotel, a place known for it’s fancy Afternoon Tea set-up.
The decor in the space was quite lovely. It felt fresh and glamorous, traditional but also whimsical.
We sat down and looked over the menu. Tim and I would generally order a pot of tea and maybe a pastry each at an American coffee shop/cafe. But here, we really wanted to experience everything, so we both ordered different teas and then chose the menu option where they bring you small bites of all sorts of different toasts, pastries, and finger foods. I’m the type of gal who likes to try everything on the menu, so this was especially exciting for me.
The tea came out first. Tim got some sort of green tea and I ordered Earl Gray tea- my absolute favorite.
Then came the food! It was almost to adorable to eat. . . almost.
As you can see, we had a smorgasbord to choose from. From sweet to savory, it was all there.
That green macaroon (below) was interesting. You were supposed to squeeze the berry filling into it before eating. Mostly, it was just fun to look at!
My favorite food by far were the scones. O-M-G, I still crave those things. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a scone here in the U.S. I can only hope they taste as amazing….. well actually if I want to keep a fit figure, maybe I hope they are no where close to as good.
So, we enjoyed our tea & scones and chatted it up like all the classy brits.
Mat (Tim’s best friend from high school) felt like tea time was the perfect opportunity to wear his wooden bowtie. I have to agree and I think he looked great in it!
So, this whole post to say if you ever go to London, you simply must schedule an Afternoon Tea. It was fun, fancy, and delicious! See you Monday!

You look lovely at this tea!
