I have dreams, a lot of dreams. I’m a dreamer. One of my dreams includes this baby below.
That’s right. While some people can’t imagine living in less than 100 sqft and leading a gypsy sort of lifestyle- I dream of it (literally)! I don’t need a lot of stuff, but I do need ADVENTURE! I need to see and be inspired by new scenery as often as possible. I believe I become a better designer when I am inspired by the ULTIMATE DESIGNER’S (God’s) beautiful creations. Like on MY VISIT TO THE CALIFORNIA COAST. So, one day (maybe sooner than later) I hope to buy one of these old airstreams, renovate it, and take it across the country.
Here are some photos of that make me giddy and anxious with anticipation!
This is an airstream that Ralph Lauren bought and renovated. Although it’s not my style, I can really appreciate it’s design. All that texture is gorgeous! And the fact that you would never guess this was the inside of an AIRSTREAM is pretty incredible too!
I figured that while I am including inspirational shots of AIRSTREAMS I would also include some other eye candy 🙂 . . .
Matthew Mcconaughey is known for enjoying the simplicity of living with the bare minimum (at least sometimes) and the freedom of leading a life where your not tied down. See his amped up AIRSTREAM below.
Sooooo, anyone selling an old silver bullet (AIRSTREAM)?
UPDATE: After reading this post Tim’s PaPa sent us photos of his AIRSTREAM. He said it took him back to the good ol’ days when he and Grand’ma used to take road trips coast to coast in this beauty.
Tim even got to stay in it a couple of times. PaPa said traveling is in his blood. I guess it’s something that runs in the family! 🙂

OMG! It’s like you read my mind! I came a cross one of these for FREE on craigslist about a month ago. Although it was stuck in a patch of dirt at a local lake and the posting explained it would take heavy equipment to get it out. I wanted it so bad! However my husband brought me back from my dream world, we don’t have the money or man power to pull the thing out and get it home. Thanks so much for this post and keeping my dream alive also.
Um. Yes please. I would live in a airsteam for an indefinite amount of time if Matthew Mcconaughey came along… as long as he left his bongos and shirts at home. yum
OK, Now you’ve prompted a post from a lurker guy (straight, not that it matters) who appreciates good design. I’ve always had a daydream of owning an airstream also, but just last week for some unknown reason, I started pricing Airstreams on Ebay (in addition to sailboats.) Then, I saw the same Sunset cover at the library on Saturday and was mesmerized. I’m beginning to think Airstream has hired Dom Cobb (as in Inception) as promotions director!
I LOVE Airstreams and would LOVE to live in one. Simplicity! Minimalism! Gimme gimme gimme!
I work at an Airstream dealer. We sell a good number of them each year. We can’t keep a used trade-in for more than a week or so.
I love seeing custom Airstream interiors. I only see the stock, factory fixin’s.

Thanks for the comments everyone! We can all dream of AIRSTREAMS together!
ANONYMOUS- It’s good to know that I have a few members of the opposite sex reading the blog! I am glad I finally prompted you to comment. Now my goal is to find something else that will stir you to say something! 🙂
LEW!!!!!!!!!! You have to let me know if you get a used one for an affordable price! We are serious about following our dreams! 🙂
I had a PaPa in Petersburg! AND I grew up with an Airstream… we eventually had to sell it (heartbreaking!!) but we ended up *surprise* back to the lady that originally owned it in the 60s or70s! So, that eased the pain a little.
I think there’s a place that rescues/sells Airstreams in NC…? Hope you get yours, and I’ve already got a plan for when I get mine! 😀
I recently saw an article in Sunset magazine about traveling in an Airstream. When I went to their website to find the article, I came up with a whole host of articles instead. Some cool inspiration! http://search.sunset.com/st-results.html?Ntt=airstream&x=0&y=0
