Hey Friends! Yesterday was a good day! Why you ask? Because I got something in the mail that I have been waiting for!!
I have made no secret about the fact that I love, love Dolly Parton! As a matter of fact, you can read about it here, here, and here! Ha! At our Bible study on Sunday, they asked the question- “What is the best gift you’ve ever recieved?” I, of course, answered, “Front row tickets to a Dolly Parton concert!” Read about that here!
It was the best gift because Tim knew that Dolly Parton is an inspiration to me. Her music, her story, her attitude- she’s just an amazing person! Someone at our group agreed that Dolly is a “national treasure.” That guy instantly became my favorite person in the group! 🙂 Anyway, you’re probably wondering what all this has to do with what I got in the mail.
Well, the great Andy Warhol also had an affinity for the Queen of Country and actually ended up creating a portrait of her. His original looks like this. . .

Ironically enough, this piece hangs in a museum a few miles from the home I grew up in, in Arkansas. It’s a lovely piece and I want it for my home! Of course the original is not an option for me, so I decided a reproduction would do. Plus, a reproduction offered me the opportunity to customize the colors of the piece to fit my space! I feel like Dolly would appreciate the “poppy” hues I used to make this piece a little more vibrant!
I don’t have a frame for the print yet, but I couldn’t wait to hang it. So, right now a few tacks are holding it in place until I can properly hang it. I think a gold frame will be the perfect accent color, so I’ll probably custom make one of those!
I love this piece soooo much! I told Tim that I will walk into the living room everyday, look over, and give Dolly a wink. And I will decide to be great that day, because Dolly is great. . . and she is my inspiration! 🙂
The rest of the wall has some random “art” placed so I don’t have stare at a white wall while I decide what will permanently go there.
So, what do you think of my new art? Any Dolly fans out there!?
Also, are there any professional artists that read my blog? It is my understanding that it is legal for me to use this photograph, since I modified the colors, in my home as long as I don’t try to sell it. Is this correct? I want to make sure I am not doing anything illegal!

I was named after Dolly’s song “Jolene” so I’ve always been a fan! Fun that you have made a reminder of your inspiration in your home.
According to copy-wright a piece must be changed 60% before it becomes your piece. However for personal use, you will usually not run into any issues. Just don’t plan to make any money from the piece, if you make money someone is going to want their cut. Legally they will have to send you a cease and desist letter first, to request you stop using it. I wouldn’t worry about it though since its just on your wall. Also artistic copy-writes expire on art after 50 years. Also a side-note, there are loads of maps and high-res images of space curtsey of the USA government and your tax dollars that are available to use. These images fall under public domain. http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/imagegallery/iotd.html
I love, love, love Dolly, AND Crystal Bridges!
