You might remember a couple of weeks ago when I introduced Janice’s “Asian Inspired Master Bathroom.” Well now I’m back to share a couple “before” photos as well as some “final shot” pics. CLICK HERE to check out the video of me presenting the space.
Here is what Janice’s bathroom looked like on day 1.
And today. . .
Janice fell in love with the crystal chandelier (above the tub) one day when she was shopping and had to have it. However, my original design called for a chandelier that was more organic rather than glitzy. With the help of photoshop I am able to see what my suggestion would have looked like.
On the floors, I used a tile with a slightly rough texture that looked like natural stone. Filling the wall behind the tub is a pebble tile in beautiful shades of green.
Another BEFORE.
And the AFTER. . .
I opted to take down the original mirror. It was uninteresting and far from unique. Instead I used 3 slender mirrors for obvious function, to bounce light around, and to add a modern element. I chose to install tongue and groove wood flooring on the wall to warm up the space and balance out the cold concrete countertops (they are almost as sleek and sexy as the guy who installed them-my husband!!).

The stark white of the vanity had to go. It was replaced by an organic sage green that I antiqued. Although I wanted to keep things feeling natural, I also wanted to add sleek and modern touches throughout. Enter the glass vessel sinks and chrome faucets.

The frameless glass shower door really opens up this space as it allows you to see the floor tile run the length of the bathroom and continue up the shower wall. Below is a photo with the chandelier I would have chosen.

The bathtub nook (which should have been a focal point) was really bland and boring. By taking the pebble tile all the way to the ceiling it instantly draws your eye. The window provided a lot of light, which we did not want to loose. So I build a custom window covering that resembles a shoji screen adding to our asian theme.
The front of the bathtub was formerly cultured marble. The outdated material was replaced with the same wood flooring found above the vanity, completely transforming the tub’s look.
My chandelier choice below.
Here is the wallpaper that inspired the whole theme.
See a little more detail in these close-ups!
Before we ever got started I did a couple of drawings to help Janice see what everything would look like when all was said and done. Originally Janice wasn’t sure she wanted to spring for the glass shower door because of budget issues, but in the end the curtain was out and the clear door was in! I’m so glad!

I love it! I want that bathroom!
AWESOME! So impressive!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bathroom! If you would have told me that you were going to make an Asian themed bathroom, I would have been afraid of giant yin yangs and gongs on the walls. But it is obvious why YOU are so good at this! You created something modern, elegant, and beautiful. Bravo!
I love how you use the hardwood floors for the tub. My question is, how does that hold up with wetness and moisture?
I would love to recreate the paneled bathtub look but both of our bathrooms have the combined bathtub/showers. Not sure you could panel in a tub like those. Any ideas?
