BIG BACKYARD REVEAL

BIG BACKYARD REVEAL
Tim and I finally found the time to not only complete all of our projects outside, but to set the stage and make it perfect for a few videos!
Well, don’t just sit there, watch that video!! I am dying to know what you think! And can I just say, I think blogger has a program that picks the worst face I make during my videos and displays it as the “cover page” so that I look absolutely ridiculous at first glance. Awesome. Oh well, everyone needs a good laugh I guess! 🙂

Here is what the backyard looked like the day we moved in. It already had plenty of fabulous features (like tons of mature landscaping), but we have taken it to a whole other level!
The first summer we moved in a 6ft fence replaced the “American dream” white picket partition. Lovely to look at, but not very functional when it comes to keeping things confidential!

We wanted to create a master bedroom suite, but the floor plan made it impossible to have a sleeping and seating area while still getting that extra large closet and bathroom. Our fix: give the master bedroom its own secluded outdoor area for relaxing and reading or romantic dining!

Like I sometimes do I got carried away with completing the project and failed to take as many pictures as I should have. So this one comes to you courtesy of a paused point in the 1st Project Privacy video.

A few “along the journey” photos.

And the present-day pics. . .
No longer a catch-all, this space is calling for the spotlight!
The “living” wall is perfect for herbs, small annuals, or succulents. Want to switch things around? No prob, Bob! Those petite planter boxes are easily rearranged!

This privacy planter/screen/water feature was envisioned and built by my talented husband. Of course I helped but the idea was all his. The whole thing was made from reclaimed materials -from the pallet wood to the old wire fencing to the copper that previously served as our plumbing! Man it feels good to be green!!!!

Total cost for this crazy cool master suite makeover- under $100!

Check back in soon to see the Big Backyard Reveal- Part 2 and another amazing outdoor space!

I think it’s quite obvious that I am “hooked” on outdoor living! Check out the Hooked on Houses Blog Party to see what other people are obsessing over!

Kara! Love the patio. You are so clever to come up with water feature. My backyard has no trees, no plants, nothing but grass. I am hoping to come up with some creative ways to define space without having trees or a patio. Thanks for the ideas!

KARA! A.Mazing! I am so inspired….well, not to the point of actually doing that myself! Ha! But, seriously that is beautiful. I love it. If you ever want to swing by our place and give some pointers, we would be more than happy to cook you dinner for your time! 🙂 So fun to keep up with you through your blog! Keep up the good work!

I think this is great, particularly the integrated fountain. Are the little planter boxes wedged between the boards? Is that how you move them around?

Just found you from over at Kimba’s, and I am so glad I did! That outdoor space is just spectacular! I can’t wait to see how you put it all together.

Thanks for all the comments ladies (and gents if there are any of you out there)! Someone asked if the planter boxes were wedged in between the slats. Well, I nailed a small piece of wood to the back of each planter that sticks up. So when I place the box in between the slats (which is a pretty good fit from the beginning) the piece sticking up catches the slat and keeps it from falling out and also keeps the box from having to be permanently attached. Hope that makes sense! 🙂

Just found your blog from Olive Rue. I’ve been looking for cement pavers just like yours forever. Where ever did you get them? Great backyard makeover!
