CELEBRATE THEIR SENSE OF SELF

CELEBRATE THEIR SENSE OF SELF
We are all shaped during our childhood years. Our experiences, family and friends, and surroundings all serve to make us the people we are today. Parents have such an important job as they can encourage a child to follow their dreams and help to nurture their God-given talents! When designing a child’s room, I always try to incorporate elements that celebrate their personalities and talents. My hope is that their room is a space where they feel free to be their unique self. With this in mind I took on the challenge of Joel’s space!

Joel is a lively little boy who loves sports, creating artwork, and acrobatics! We watched him scale doorways and turn flips with such ease it was amazing! I tried to make each of these loves part of the final product.
His artwork takes center stage above the bed. I attached cork to the wall and hung all his unique creations, which can be easily switched as he gets older and makes more pieces.

For such a creative and energetic child I wanted to use a lot of color in the space without it being overwhelming. This was achieved by painting the walls a neutral gray and allowing the color to come from art and accessories.

When I spotted this “swing seat” (at IKEA) I knew it would be perfect for Joel’s new space. It not only speaks to his acrobatic tendencies but provides a wonderful place for reading (which is another thing Joel loves to do!!)

The bookshelves that flank the sleeping space provide TONS of needed storage. Baskets keep clutter hidden and make sure clean up is easy peasy. You can never have too much storage to corral kid’s toys, so the bed is also raised providing more room to stash Joel’s stuff!

I love the cork wall, the built ins, the ‘day bed’ look, this room really captures his personality and sense of playfulness! The only thing I would change is the curtains….I would turn this very same pair into a pocket top and not have them so draped on the floor, I think it would just clean it up that teeny bit.
