Sometimes we put off decorating because we feel like it will cost a lot of money and take a lot of time. But that doesn’t have to be the case! I wanted to end the week with a little challenge/inspiration by sharing a makeover with you that I completed with about $50 and in 1 day. Let’s take a look at the BEFORE.
The major problem with this space was the color. The caramel wall blended into the caramel oak vanity which blended into the caramel colored floor tile. There were also caramel colored bath rugs that I happened to pick up before I took the photo. This left the space feeling extremely drab and uninteresting. Now take a look at the AFTER.
By simply changing the wall color to a blue-gray, the bathroom looked 10x better. Then we began to bring in just a few upgrades and added a little personality. We took down the big builder grade mirror and replaced it with a framed one that the homeowner had but wasn’t using anywhere else in the house. This made the space feel much less generic.
Next I created a little “skirt” with some scrap fabric and a tension rod. I did this because I wanted to break up the big wood vanity (it doesn’t feel so heavy in the space now) and give it some charm.
A new, shiny faucet (on clearance for $30) from Home Depot helped our cause and some minimal accessories sealed the deal! That is all it took to bring this bathroom back from it’s “covered in caramel” blues.
So now that you see how easy it really is, what room are you going to gussy up this weekend? Really, which one? Send me some before and afters and let me tell your “sad to stunning” story so I can share it right here on the ol’ blog! Happy decorating!!

The faucet looks fab and I can’t beleive you got it for only #30! This weekend will be a continuation of the last 4 months of work completely gutting and putting back together our main bathroom. Everything from the subfloor to the insulation to the tub is new. We are coming into the homestretch with finishing details on the agenda for this weekend. Finishing trim, installing a bit of shelving, and choosing a window treatment – the fun stuff!
I think the faucet in our hallway bathroom is very similar to that one but with white handles. It goes really well in our 50’s bathroom, and it was only $25 at Home Depot! I was stoked!
