Part 3 of the BIG BACKYARD REVEAL will have to wait because I have some big news and makeover photos from CLEAN SLATE! CLICK HERE to learn more about Clean Slate and CLICK HERE to meet the precious family set to receive this once in a lifetime opportunity.
We had 3 days (really only 48 hours) and $1500 to totally overhaul a whole house! The task was enormous but the pay-off was even greater. Here I am feeling perky and positive on Day 1.
Those feelings faded a bit after a couple of trials and tribulations we experienced. Here I am not so confident or energetic at the end of Day 1 and a tornado-like storm.
There were plenty of moments when I thought “There is no way we are going to get this done.” The last couple hours on day 3 were complete chaos, but by the grace of God we prevailed and I was even able to freshen up a bit before the homeowners arrived to tour their newly beautified bungalow! Take a look at their reaction as they walked into their colorful tuscan kitchen.
Originally we told the family that we would only be doing one room in the house, however I think my candid questions (I had to make sure I knew their style) about the rest of the rooms hinted at the fact that we would be taking on far more than a single space. In the end every room was cleaned up and organized while the kitchen, dining, living, office, and outdoor areas were given a new divine design. Let me take you through a few of these amazing transformations!
Let’s take a closer look, shall we?
Here are some living room before and afters!
BEFORE
And AFTER
BEFORE
And AFTER- The exquisite chandelier that replaced the frumpy fan now draws your eye up to focus on those beautiful beams!!
Take a better look at the console table. I love the vintage knobs and its so much better than the techie table the TV was sitting on before!
BEFORE – The placement of the sofas not only blocked the view of the fireplace, but cut the living room in half making the area behind the couches wasted space.
AFTER- Now their is a clear view from one side of the space to the other. The set-up not only encourages conversations instead of constant TV watching but also keeps the fireplace from fading into the background!
Like that chair? It received quite a facelift! From ugly and orange to absolutely gorgeous!
ABOVE- Don’t you just love that little pillow! I found it at an estate sale and it took everything I had to use it in the space instead of keeping it for myself!
Now to the dining room! Here’s a shot of it from the living area.
Of course we need a BEFORE-
By painting the table and using the chairs they already had, we saved a bunch of bucks. The built in bench, modifications to the light fixture, blinds, and fabrics took this dining area from boring to breathtaking!
The built in bench was topped with beyond beautiful raw wood that adds to the authentic tuscan feel that we were going for!
An area for Angela to hang her apron.
A BEFORE of the dining room from the kitchen.
And the AFTER
Finally to the Kitchen which experienced the biggest change by far!

AFTER
BEFORE
And AFTER
Everything from the lighting to the flooring was changed for the better. Can lights replaced florescent ones, painted formica was traded out for terra cotta and concrete, and wood laminate took the place of carpet and tile. We sent the oak cabinets packing and opted for painted ones in green and gray instead. The result? An authentic tuscan feel instead of that hoity- toity tuscan so prevalent here in Tulsa!
So, that’s it! Clean Slate is over until next year! I want to personally thank everyone who came out to help and donated their time, talents, and/or treasures! We did far more than makeover a home, we helped to open the hearts of a family that needed to experience unconditional love!
Only 362 days until we get to do it all over again!!!
I am super hooked on this high that comes from helping others. To see what others can’t seem to shake, head over to HOOKED ON HOUSES for the weekly “Hooked on . . .” (you fill in the blank) blog party!

Looks great! I have a chair almost exactly like that one and I plan to do the same thing to it (white paint and new fabric). Can you tell me how you did it? Did you sand it, what type of paint did you use? Thanks for the tips!
Hey Jessica, I actually had someone else cover the chair. I know it included a staple gun and some trim. For painting you just sand, prime, and paint! 🙂
Wow, how special to be part of a project like this! You did a great job. Congrats on all the hard work, it definitely paid off!
I love the kitchen transformation…the cabinets are to die for! OMG!
It looks SO fantastic! What an amazing job and I love the way you decorated. It’s incredible to me that you can look at the before and envision something so incredibly different and perfect for the space.
