CLEAN SLATE KITCHEN 2010

CLEAN SLATE KITCHEN 2010

Now, I’m no cook but I go weak in the knees at the sight of a good lookin’ kitchen!!! That was exactly the type of reaction I wanted to evoke for our “Clean Slate” homeowner. As I have mentioned before Sherri is a sucker for high contrasting colors and an inviting environment. And come to find out, she also loves the look of cabinets adorned with chicken wire! When I showed her these two inspiration photos below, she beamed with excitement and anticipation!!

So of course I had to incorporate this lovely look into her kitchen makeover. Here’s how it turned out!

Don’t you love how the view of dining room goes perfectly with what you see in this space? And, of course the color palette and chicken wire speaks directly to the idea of a “MODERN FARMHOUSE” style!
The cabinet door hardware was switched to an assortment of aged brass knobs (my newest obsession). They pop against the bright white and add a warm element to the room along with the rug and backsplash.

I left some cabinets see-through while covering others with fabric- because we all know some things need to be out of sight! And I just really liked the look!

I also created a bookshelf of sorts to show off some sweet little items that add a whole lot of charm!

All our money in this room went to:
PAINT- $50
CHICKEN WIRE- $10
FABRIC- $10
HARDWARE- $5 (thank you REstore!)
and ACCESSORIES- $25
Bringing the total cost of this makeover to- $100!!!
Not bad for such a small budget!!!!

What a great budget makeover! We are in the middle of doing two-tone cabinets in our kitchen so seeing this makes me even more excited about finishing.

I read your blog religiously and I’m looking for hardware for a couple of items and I went to my local REstore and they have no hardware!! 🙁 and hardware at a place like Lowe’s or Home Depot is waaay to expensive for me. Any suggestions?

Hey Paige! Thanks for the support! Ok, well you can look on craigslist, garage sales, and ebay. You could also go for something a little more creative- like using ribbons, rope, or drilling through metal to make your own one-of-a-kind knobs!!! I’d love to see what you come up with!! 🙂

What an amazing makeover, it looks like a completely different kitchen I can’t even believe the budget! For the top cabinets, how did you cut the center out of the existing doors?

This is an absolutely stunning makeover… and for the low price of $100?? Yes please! I’ve got 3 cabinet doors that I’m supposed to be getting glass cut for, but I believe I’ll definitely check out the chicken wire first. Thanks for the GREAT inspiration, keep up the great work; I love your style!

P.S. I came from YHL – awesome coffee table makeover as well 🙂
