CLEAN SLATE- ONE TEENAGE BOY’S “AWESOME” ROOM
When no one was looking- this is what Luke wrote on the chalkboard wall in the dining room.

So, let’s see what Luke was so jazzed about!
It is ALWAYS important to make sure adjoining rooms compliment each other. When the french doors that lead to Luke’s room are open, the scene goes very well with what is happening in the living and dining room.

Below is what you would have seen before we started our major makeover. The sun room used to serve as the parent’s bedroom. The obvious privacy problem could have been fixed with a few curtain panels, however I had a different idea.
IMG_2485As you can imagine, Luke does not get to enjoy the outdoors as much as he would like. By trading Luke’s room (which was actually the master bedroom anyway) with the parent’s room, we were able to surround him with a beautiful scene and constant source of vitamin D!

But since going through Luke’s new room was the only way to get to the backyard, privacy was still a problem. What to do, what to do?
Well, I came up with this floating headboard/wall idea, which Tim helped me execute to perfection!!!DSC09415

This solution (which used steel posts and wooden 1X6’s) gave Luke privacy while also allowing light to pass through and flood the living space. The new “wall” also directs guests towards the doors and keeps them from invading the teenage boy’s sleeping space!

Being the die-hard hockey fan that Luke is, I wanted to find a way to honor that without being too overt. Originally on the docket was a chandelier made from hockey sticks but time was not on my side and much to my dismay, that project got scratched. DARN YOU, TIME!!! So I settled for hockey sticks as curtain rods, a puck as a paper weight, and an old framed hockey magazine.

I LOVE, LOVE his face here. To me it conveys more than words could ever say.Picture 14

Stay tuned for the kitchen redo that cost a mere $100!!!!
