Hello Friends!  I’ve had so many sweet comments lately. Thank you so much for your kind words.  I have read every single comment and question.  I will carve out some time to respond tonight.  Again, thank you for your sweet compliments- they mean the world to me! 🙂

So let’s get to it.  Remember a while ago when Tim left to go install a set in St. Louis?  I blogged about being excited because I tend to get a lot of work done when he leaves.  Well, my main goal while he was gone was to build something to corral our clothing.  In case you’ve forgotten, here’s what our living situation looked like back then. . . .

So, as you can see our clothes created a screen of sorts which separated our sleeping area from our living room area.  Having our clothes (which were not well organized) exposed and visually cluttering up our space was really getting on my nerves!

So Tim left and I went to work!  My plan was to basically build a large box with four quadrants that would sit up against an open wall we have in our space.

Tim usually builds the large scale pieces around here, but I like to build things every once in while just to show myself that I can do it all on my own if I have to.  🙂  Anyway, I’m not going to bore you with all the details about how I put the piece together, but here’s how it looked once it was built and before it was painted.

Now it was time to paint.  I decided I wanted the piece to feel somewhat modern and therefore wanted to go with a super high glass, almost lacquer finish.  So, I ran over to Spectrum Paint and asked the experts there what paints they had that would give me the finish I was looking for.  They suggested using an Acrylic Enamel (which would give me a super durable finish) and topping it off with an Aqua Plastic Urethane to give me that high gloss modern look I was hoping for.

Once I had my supplies, I had my helper Natale come over and start painting.

Now, while Natale was painting the piece, I was working on the wall that the armoire would sit up against.  As you know, I am obsessed with gold and especially gold paint right now.  I wanted to use the gold to create a rich, opulent finish.  I felt like the high gloss white paired with the luxurious gold would be super chic and balance out all these masculine finishes in our space (exposed brick, concrete floors, wood beam ceilings).  Of course I used my favorite metallic paint ever from Spectrum Paint. Yes, I’ve posted about it before and yes I will post about it again because I seriously love it!!

I thought of doing a fun pattern on the wall, but realized it would be wasted effort because we have way too many clothes and the pattern could never be appreciated.  🙂 So, the idea was nixed.

We finally got everything painted and put in place.  Then I started loading up the piece with our wardrobe.  And here’s how it looks today. . .

Now, we certainly aren’t done yet.  I wanted our clothing to be concealed.  And although it’s feeling much more corralled now, it is still too open for me.  And let’s just be honest. . . our closet is rarely this organized.  (Yes, this is organized for me.)  I would much rather have doors I can close in case I have to clean up in a hurry and throw things inside! 🙂  (Yes, I did this as a teenager, and yes I still do this.)  

So, the plan is to build 4 doors that I will put on a track and be able to slide to reveal whatever potion of the piece I need to get to.  I’m excited because I have a fun design planned for these doors, so stay tuned! 🙂
