Hey Friends! I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday! Today, I am sharing some changes that I’ve made in my dining room. You know me, I am always moving things around and changing things up. Generally, I believe the changes are for the better, however it might just be that things are different. I like change, I embrace it. Anyway, you can be the judge- which version of the room do you like best?

And now, here’s the newest version of my colorful and eclectic dining room.
AFTER
Before I was trying to conceal the off-centeredness (yeah that’s probably not a word) of the window, but lately I’ve been embracing asymmetry (I think West Elm catalogs have really helped me with this)! I also replaced the former mirror frame with an amazing carved masterpiece I found at a garage sale! I couldn’t believe my luck! The frame came from India and was formerly a door of some sort. If you are still not down with an asymmetrical look, use my wall of curtains idea to hide problem area you may have in your house.
Because I always have people asking what the mason jar chandelier looks like when the light is not on, I took some photos for inquiring minds. 🙂
My chairs have also changed since the last time you saw this room. I love the bright pops of color these vintage beauties bring in! I really love color and even though I can really appreciate the gorgeous rooms that have a calm, more neutral color palette, I always gravitate towards color in my own home.
The new “art” to the right of the mirror are some simple baskets and an Anthropologie bird calendar. I know birds are a little overdone, but I really like them so I don’t care if they’re unoriginal. 🙂
My centerpiece was super easy to create. Its actually just a chip & dip serving tray. Around the outside, I stacked a collection of vintage teacups which add some real charm to the room. In the center (where the dip would normally go) I placed a moss ball. Call me crazy, but I’m kind of in love with moss balls.
The faux fireplace has pretty much stayed the same. The DIY “Do What You Love” artwork stays the center of attention, but the rest of the items on the mantle rotate regularly.
The mason jar chandelier is super hard to photograph, but here are a few amateur attempts I made. If your new around here, you also may have noticed our wood beamed ceiling that is all throughout our common areas. Tim and I actually found the wood slat ceiling during demo a long time ago. We loved it and immediately knew we wanted to reveal the character of the wood over the boring ol’ drywall! So we uncovered it all and added some “faux wood beams” which are really just 1X6’s. It gave us the charming look we were going for and the cost was minimal.

Ooh I like it! I personally prefer the bolder graphic lines that comes out with the new changes. And what garage sales are you going to! I need to find me some!
Love the before, but the after is so fun and fresh. The chairs are adorable and the plum curtains are beautiful with the blue walls. Well done Kara!
I like the eclectic, “collected” feel of the after. It feels homey and lived in…which I love.

Love the new pops of color, but am a fan of the drop cloth curtains. There was just something about them that was lovely. They seemed to give off a cocoon feel that said, “Stay awhile and fellowship with us.”
I love that your rooms evolve with you. The before was absolutely gorgeous, but it is fun to change things up. I really like all the color without their being a color scheme. That is what I am always trying to fight… matchy matchy. I would line the curtains, but they might just look thin in the photos. The frame… what an awesome find. I have always liked the string holding the plans in the fireplace. I want to do something like that for storage in my office. Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing it with us=)

I love the new look! The “old” look was fine, but I think taking out the curtains really opened it up a lot! And I LOVE the new chairs. The colors are lovely.
