CURB APPEAL BEFORE AND AFTER

CURB APPEAL BEFORE AND AFTER
It was the summer of 2007 when we became bona fide homeowners! We were so excited and extremely pumped to be fixing up our first place! It needed all kinds of work and that included some major outdoor updating!!! Here’s what our home looked like on day one. . .

We changed a whole lot. . .

The landscaping before-

You will notice that we extended the flower bed to incorporate the tree in our front yard. By doing this we were able to build up the ground around the tree and make its awkward growth pattern “disappear.”
We painted the trim. Here is the before.
And the after.
Even just the little pop of color from the newly painted trim keeps the house from looking bland.
We replaced the white picket fence for a tall oak colored one that provides more privacy and warmth to the overall color scheme.

And finally my favorite change was covering up the old carport. It’s form felt trashy to me but it’s functionality was too good to get rid of. So, I designed this trellis of sorts that really adds to the charm of our house. Check it out!

Oh, and I was recently featured on MY UNCOMMON SLICE OF SUBURBIA so go take a look around the site and make sure to see the kitchen makeover- it is incredible!

Did you built the trellis yourself? And did you replace your carport with it or just use it to hide the carport? It is really beautiful and I have been looking for some solutions just like that!

This is heaven and so inspiring!!

We have a carport practically identical to your “before” photo and I’ve been trying to decide whether a paint job would help it or if it should just be torn down. I love the idea you had for hiding the carport with an overhead trellis. Do you have any tips for recreating this disguise??

What beautiful changes! I love the pergola instead of carport the most, what a difference. I think everyone should spend more time on the outside of their homes, it’s so important to smile when you come home!

So glad you ladies like the changes we’ve made around here! For those that asked, the trellis sits in front of the carport to hide it and we did build it ourselves. Unfortunately we did not document the process (I didn’t have a blog at the time), but maybe we could recreate it sometime in the future to help anyone out who might want to try it out.
