There are number of things you can add to an outdoor space to make it a place people want to hang out in. One of those things is a bar. Whether built-in or freestanding, a permanent piece or a rolling cart- having a place where guests can get a specialty drink is one way to make a space feel extra special.
A bar was especially important in this outdoor space, which I designed for a passionate beer brewer! I don’t know if you’ve ever met a beer brewer, but they are serious about what they do! There is a lot of work required to create your own brew.
For this particular space I didn’t want to do a giant bar, but I certainly wanted the piece to be permanent and not to look like an afterthought that you wheel in and out of the space for get togethers. After scouring the internet and not finding much, I decided that I would design the piece myself and have it built. I used steel and cedar to make sure the piece would withstand all the elements that Oklahoma weather throws at us. Believe me, this piece will be here for years to come! After moving it multiple times, I can tell you it is all there!
Besides the steel and wood, I wanted to add a decorative element. I love, love the idea of glowing furniture, especially in an outdoor space. By lighting this strip of wine bottles from behind, I was able to create both a beautiful and functional piece of furniture!
I also had the piece built so that there is plenty of storage behind the bar.
Can’t you just imagine this couple having swanky parties in this space- bartender serving up cocktails, Shirley Temples, and a delicious home brew!? I hope I get invited!
