Well I realized there was one DIY that I left out when we covered Amanda’s music school makeover. So I decided today was as good a day as any to cover the modern piece of wall art that I created for free! 🙂
Amanda actually had a piece of art that no longer fit her style or space, so instead of throwing it out with the trash, we reused the canvas.
1. I wanted to start with a blank slate, so I simply covered the old art with a coat of light gray paint that I had on hand.
Ahh, much better!
2. Next, I used my circle punch and left over chromalux from the lampshade project to create a bunch of shiny circles!
3. Then I took each circle and folded the four sides up. I did this because I wanted to create a 3-D effect within the art.
4. After that, I started to arrange my pieces on the canvas. I kept tweaking things until I was happy with it. I then used hot glue to put the pieces in place.
At first I wanted to make things a little more random, but I ended up butting the pieces up together so that they fit together like a puzzle.
Once all the gold pieces were glued down, I took a few white circles and glued them in a way that they protruded from the piece making the art feel more like a sculpture.
The different levels are much more pronounced in person, but hopefully you can see the effect through the photos as well.
And there you have it, a piece of modern art for free!
I think the piece really works in this space because it speaks to the clustered gold cymbals above the TV!
Sometimes it’s hard to know how to fill our walls. Look around at what you have and get creative. Art does not have to be conventional, as a matter of fact- it’s much better when it’s unique and somehow represents you!
‘Til tomorrow!

Thats is lovely! You’re house is beautiful by the way!
