So you remember those cute curtains from Amanda’s apartment, right? They were all white and lacked the personality Amanda was after. So I came up with an easy and cheap solution to add some pizazz!
Ruffles are really easy to achieve if you aren’t obsessed with them being the same size. Here’s how I created these curtains.
1. Cut scrap fabric into long thin strips.
2. Sew your sides to prevent them from fraying or dab on the liquid stuff that stops fraying. I can’t remember what it’s called but you can find it at your local craft store. You could also opt to use ribbon and skip this step altogether.
3. Next you start sewing. These curtains were really easy because I wanted my lines to be very random. I simply started on one side of the curtain panel, then twisted and turned the fabric until I got to the other side. But straight lines would look good too!
4. To create the ruffle, I bunched the fabric with my fingers and then pushed it through the machine. It was a very precise and difficult process!!!! Just kidding, you can totally do this! I even shot a little video to show you just how easy it was!
5. Last I added “blocks” of fabric to a few of the shapes created by intersecting ruffles. This gave the panels a little more presence in the rooms. I used fusible tape and an iron to adhere the blocks of fabric.
And there you have it- custom made curtains for FREE!!!

I love these curtains…very Anthro looking
I love these. You make them look so- to quote AshleyAnn, Anthro- where I would be afraid mine would look Craft Closety.
BTW loved your post on YHL today!
Thanks Ladies! I LOVE Anthropologie- so that is a HUGE compliment!
Kara, I LOVE these. Like the other comments, very Anthropologie looking. 🙂 Would you mind telling me where you got the actual white curtains? And also how you attached the twine ties to the tops of the curtains? Thank you for all the inspiration!
Hey Candace! I am so glad you like the curtains and it sounds like you are going to make some for yourself! BRAVO!! The original curtains came from Target. For the twine, I simply poked holes through the tops of the curtains with some scissors and threaded the twine through. Then I dabbed on some of the “no fray” stuff. Hope that helps!! I’d LOVE to see how yours turn out and feature them on the blog!!
Thanks so much Kara! Okay I’m gonna go for it…..I’ll let you know how it goes! Thanks again!
