Hey Friends! Today I am excited to tell you about something Tim and I have been thinking about for years. Not only is our warehouse space going to be great in terms of providing a new place to flex our creative muscles, but there is enough room to host some DIY Workshops that we’ve been dreaming about for what seems like forever!
Tim and I’s goal had always been to help others make their home a place where they can celebrate their backgrounds and encourage their dreams. When possible we love to take on a client’s room and take the process from start to finish. However, we know that hiring us is not always a possibility. We also know there are plenty of you who love to be creative on your own and could just use a little guidance or instruction when it comes to building certain skills!
Well, Tim and I are excited to help you do just that! Our workshops will be a one day event in which you will learn all sorts of DIY tips. Tim and I have put a lot of thought into the topics that we would cover and the types of projects we would talk about, but we want to hear from you. Below is a list of possible topics/projects that we are considering. We would love, love, love it if you would comment and let us know the issues that peak your interest the most.
– Painting/Staining Techniques
– Upholstery Basics
– The Process of Designing an entire room (Kara’s methods)
– Learning about and trying new products
– Furniture Building Basics
– Handling Basic Power Tools
– Handling more advanced/specific power tools (welder, scroll saw,
– Accessorizing Rules
– My thought process for reinventing objects
– Electric- wiring ceiling lights, making lamps
Of course feel free to add any topics that we have left out.
Our workshops will be VERY “hands on” and we will practice each topic we discuss. We even have plans for attendees to be able to choose a project that they will complete from start to finish and be able to take home with them from the workshop. We also are thinking that we will have different types of workshops diving into different issues.
We are planning for our first workshop to be in May. We will finalize a date soon! Don’t forget to tell us what topics you would like to see in our workshops!

What a great idea. Wish you were closer so I could attend.
(I always wished I could go into a work space and use their tools for DIY projects – sadly no such magical place exists around here)
I live in an 1860’s farmhouse getting ready to restore the windows and want to build storm windows, yes, the clip in kind. I know if I can use a serger & and a sewing machine I can use power tools….My husband is worried I might cut my finger off….haha my serger has a nasty looking blade too!
looks like fun and wish I could come….show the classes on you tube, etc.

Hey Stefanie!
That would be an amazing idea for NYC. I’m actually really surprised there isn’t a community workshop there already. Thanks for commenting!
Hey M & S! Oh my goodness, your house sounds amazing! So much history to celebrate and uncover! Your blog looks like fun too, I’m definitely going to be poking around over there!
We do plan on creating an online version of the classes, so maybe everyone outside of OK can still participate! 🙂
Oh my! This is exciting.
I would love to learn about the basics of upholstery! Painting techniques would be nice as well. Basics of building furniture would be fun. My husband would probably like me to learn how to use power tools so I don’t constantly pull him into my DIY projects! 😀
Upholstery 101 please!!
Followed by:
Advanced PowerTools
Room Design
Simple Electric
Kara, these sound amazing! If I was in the area I’d love to check out one of the workshops. Good luck!
Thanks for the input Kara! I bet your husband would like that! Tim actually enjoys this stuff, but sometimes I still get the stink eye when I ask him to help pull off my crazy ideas! 🙂
Great, thanks Deidra!
Thanks Andrea! We will have an online version soon, so maybe you could participate in that! 🙂
🙂 & 🙁
🙂 = I’m so excited for you guys hosting these workshops! I think it’s beyond brilliant!
🙁 = I don’t live close enough to attend!
I’m excited to hear more about the workshops either way! I think it’s awesome you have a space to run wild with your dreams and allow others to do the same!
Sweet…Upholstery Basics, Furniture Building Basics and Accessorizing Rules.
I hope you will be blogging these as well as giving them in real life! I want to see what you have to say about upholstering – and everythign else too! You could make this a blog we had to pay to visit and I’d prolly pay it!!!
How very cool!! Good luck with this, you two! The most interesting topic to me is the furniture building basics and more advanced tool instruction. Very cool.
I would love to attend the upholstery workshop! I have already thought about trying to find someone to teach me to upholster. I think it would be incredibly fun to find junk and make it a treasure AND I would save so much mula by doing it myself!
