Dramatic Bathroom Backsplash

Dramatic Bathroom Backsplash

One of my favorite things to do as a designer is add layers to a room.  I am not one to keep things striped down and minimal.  I think it comes from my background as a set decorator and knowing that every piece you add to a space tells a story, adds texture, and keeps things interesting!

I think if Tim lived alone, his space would be a little more sparse than what we have going on in our home right now.  He would rather let the materials speak for themselves.  I always think that is a good idea in the beginning, but as a design starts to take shape, I just can’t help but to add in that extra character!

I love that people see something different every time they come over.  I think a design should be like the person/people it represents- purposeful, beautiful, meaningful, interesting, and full of individual layers that make up one amazing whole! 🙂

So anyway, this post was prompted by a project I finished in my bathroom yesterday!  Our plan (Tim’s plan really) was to keep this space pretty raw, letting the beauty of the concrete, wood, and metal take center stage.  And while I want to do this to some degree, I had to put a little pattern in the space! 🙂

Here’s what the bathroom looked like before my project. . .

All around the house, I have created tall focal points that take your eye up.  This is not only dramatic, it makes our space feel larger than it is.  This “backsplash” of sorts follows suit and gives our bathroom a beautiful, exotic look!

The wood tiles are a perfect match to the floor, giving the space a great flow.  And I love the coral color peeking through the tiles, providing a beautiful contrast and pop of bright color!

I’m not sticking with this bath rug.  Although I like it, I think there is a better option out there.

So, there you have it!  Our wood tiled bathroom backsplash! More to come! 🙂

I second what ‘banclothing’ said! Your creativity is just amazing! I hope you do a tutorial; would love to find out how to recreate this.

I agree with everyone else, where & how? I just had our bathrooms painted & new tile is being laid as I type this, so now I need some deco going on.

The raw wall was stunning! I don’t mind a pop of coral but this looks a little craftsy to me. And I’d have to have a mirror. Maybe with a cool coral frame?
