Instead of showing some newly found treasures this week I thought I would take a moment to show you all some of my old finds spruced up!
Life has been hectic around the Paslay house the past week but somehow I found the time for a few redos! Amazing how I can make the time to fix-up furniture but not to go to the grocery store!
I received multiple comments on this table/desk when I posted the before pics, so I can’t wait to hear what you think of the finished product! Take a moment to remember what it looked like when I first got my hands on it.
Here it is looking a lot better after more sanding I care to remember. Not to bad, but its full potential had not yet been reached.
DRUMROLL PLEASE! And now for the piece that was thought to be past its prime, down and out. It’s back and better than ever!
With a little love this beauty was brought back to life. It now serves as a desk and organizing area in my great room.
Above: Here is the profile pic. Remember those fabulous legs? They were always an eye-catcher, but now they could hitch-hike their way out of any situation!
I used Minwax’s English Chestnut and River Rock wood stains to create this colorful and classy combination. Colored stains are often underused and overlooked, but they are a wonderful way to set a piece apart from the pack. I didn’t want the desk to look like I just picked it up from the furniture store, so with a little distressing I got the appearance I was after.
Since we are on the subject of conversions: Do you feel like you have seen that chalkboard before? That’s because you have! In its previous life, this frame had some fabulous features but was failing to show them off.
The detailing was lost with its one color covering and the burlap inset was not so impressive without a background to pop off. By painting it a pale blue and sanding it to allow some green to show through the details can be appreciated. And with a black chalkboard at its back the burlap has just the contrast it needs.
Next on the list: BUY SOME CHALK!!!
Here is a closer look at some of the accessories flanking the frame.
Like what you see? Let me know! And scoot on over to Rhoda’s blog to see some more thrifty treasures!

The table is amazingly beautiful! I never would believe what it looked like before. Great job!!And the frame-what a difference!
The underlining? I am not the one to offer ideas-every post I write is hard for me!

Love that table, what an amazing sanding job and the finished product is beautiful!
I’m going to have to try some colored stains myself soon.
Looks like someone has been to TJ Maxx, lol. I have that same vase with the roping around the neck, and I also have one of the sailor’s knots.
Love how the cabinets and the chalkboard turned out. 🙂
Wowie, nice refinishing job on that table!!! The colors complement each other very well. Sue
P.S. Try the new chalk pens- they are cool. 🙂
I’m so glad to see what you did with that table! I remember it, because my Mom refinished one like it. It turned out spectacular! I love the stain colors you used. Love that chalkboard too!
Oh how lovely the table is!! You have an eye for possibilities! LOVE your transformations. I always wonder what people are doing with their great finds, thanks for sharing.

Kara, I just love that Empire piece you found & how fun to see it finished. Looks great! Thanks for playing this week.
I want to try some of this wood stain with some of my furniture. I have often thought of using it but have been reluctant…I need a step-by-step. Can you? Check out my finds too…BTW, LOVE the results! Amazing job!
