From Slouchy to Sleek

From Slouchy to Sleek
Happy Tuesday friends! Today I am going to show you the recent modifications that we made to our overstuffed sofa. This is what our couch looked like when we first bought it. We got a great deal because we used gift cards from our wedding 5 years earlier!

Overall I liked the couch, but the legs weren’t my favorite and the cushions were a bit overstuffed for my liking.

If you opened up the cushions that run against the back of the couch, they basically contained big bags of of fluff. They looked something like this.

And if you busted open the bags the fluff looked something like this.

Now this type of stuffing was very comfy, but in just a few short months the cushions started to look really sloppy. Foam or fluff of this type just cannot hold it’s shape for any amount of time. So, I decided to replace the bags of fluff with high density foam. High density foam has some give to it, but it is much more firm and creates nice clean lines when placed in a cushion.

To get the foam cut, I simply removed the cushion covers and took them to our local upholstery supply shop. They took the covers, measured out, and cut the foam to fit perfectly.
I also decided that the boxy square legs needed to go. I replaced them with a taller and more slender version. Here’s a close up. . .

After I made those changes, I felt like our couch was much more “us.” It looks more sleek and modern- perfect for loft style living! : ) We actually got to use the newly modified sofa for a set in the movie we were working on. Take a look at the after product!

Awesome! I’m actually the person who bought your white slip covered sofa. Within a week, my dog shredded the main cushion so I turned that into a dog bed, and I’ll be using an old down mattress pad for the new seat cushion as soon as I find the perfect fabric for my new craft room!
