The last before and after of the Clean Slate project is upon us. The daughter in this family will be heading of to college next year and although she won’t be around nearly as much, we didn’t want to leave her out of all the excitement. So with a little bitty budget I vowed to make some big changes! One thing is for sure, when Chelsea comes home, her room will keep her feeling like a sophisticated lady.
Before Chelsea’s room was a little too teeny bopper. But that didn’t keep our “Twlight” fanatic volunteers from having some fun!! 🙂
I loved these IKEA dressers that were already in the room. By pushing them a little closer together and placing a desk that fits perfectly between them the whole thing feels like a big built-in. The wood panels that flank the window keep the scene symmetrical and add even more impact! And the silk desk skirt gives the look a feminine touch perfect for a young lady.
I created the mirrors with two bowls bought from IKEA. The rim on the bottom of the bowl was the perfect size to place mirrors from my local craft store. The platters turned sunburst-shaped art are also convex- adding extra interest.
The L-shaped headboard was formed out of two desk tops that the family already had, making this upgrade completely FREE (besides some hanging hardware)!!
While the headboard and chrome pendant bring a modern feel to this side of the room, the side table adds the curves for a feminine touch. Speaking of the side table, check out that top!!! That is inlaid wood, and it is GORGEOUS!!!!! When I bought this piece at a garage sale, the top was covered in red paint. Then a chip revealed a glimpse of the beauty that awaited underneath!
With more time I definitely would have finished the room out with some stunning artwork, but I guess I’ll have to leave that task up to Chelsea. I am sure she will personalize it perfectly and here’s to hoping those Twilight posters don’t go back on the wall! 🙂 Did I just make a whole lot of crazy fans mad?

Love it!
Just an idea: I have similar Ikea cabinets and found that the frosted glass didn’t go far enough in hiding the clutter. I taped pieces of neutral wrapping paper facing out and it looked great. Easy to swap out if I want to redecorate too.
Thanks for the tip Kate!! 🙂
I look like a star-crazed loon! no one told me that it was just a cardboard cut-out until after the pic! : )
I love the remodel! I know that you actually had planned to use the Jacob Lautner cutout in the new room but it mysteriously disappeared…..hmmmm….no idea where it could have gone……
