Hello, hello! Happy Tuesday Friends!
When we first moved into our “new”space almost a year ago, the place had no kitchen to speak of. And really, we still don’t have a kitchen. . .but we do have a refrigerator, microwave, and toaster oven. 🙂 Recently our refrigerator got a major upgrade.
We bought one fridge off craigslist (for $80) just to have something until we made a design plan for the kitchen area. Well, a few months ago, we became a little clearer on what we want to see in that space. One thing we agreed on was a glass front refrigerator. We felt like something large and industrial would fit our loft like style really well.
So, we hopped back on Craigslist and started our search. After a few weeks of consistent checking, we ran across this guy. . .
He was definitely big and had that industrial feel we were searching for. Of course the “Cold and Refreshing” sign would have to go, but we knew that could be easily changed. So, we packed it up and hauled it off!
Here’s what it looks like now. . .
I loved the glass, but I wanted more of a translucent look rather than a totally clear view of all our food and fixin’s. 🙂 So, I got some frosted window film from Home Depot and put it on the doors. I love that it still lets the color and outlines come through, but keeps things from looking too cluttered.
Inside the fridge, I use a number of colorful bowls, baskets and containers to hold veggies, fruit, and condiments. Keeping things contained helps them to look neat and tidy. . . oh and pretty!
I don’t have a kitchen sink, dishwasher, or even cabinets- but I’ve got a beautiful fridge full of healthy food! 🙂 I’ve found that “decorating” my fridge has also helped me to eat healthy. Because I want things to look pretty, I tend to buy bright, colorful food with fun textures- this often ends up being natural, unprocessed foods!
I was pretty annoyed with Tim when he drank all the milk and the bottle was empty when I went to take this picture. . .Ugg!
I changed out the “Cold and Refreshing” sign as well. This is probably not what will stay there. I just wanted to do something quick that didn’t require much brain power for the time being. It will do for now. Oh, and I also added a wood cut out to one of the doors. It may or may not stay, but for now, I like looking at it.
So that’s our refrigerator redo! I can’t wait until we have a finished kitchen to go with it! 🙂
PS- Some of you might be wondering about a freezer. We opted to buy a separate, stand alone freezer which sits right outside the door in our garage.

I love the idea of getting one of these instead of a normal fridge!! I used to love using one of these when I worked for a cafe… but I’m worried that it’s really not energy efficient?
I’ve been looking forward to seeing what you would do with this guy! It’s a great redo. I wish I could have a great big fridge, I’m always running out of room!
So cool! What a unique fridge. Love it!

I too am concerned about the efficiency of the fridge.
So fun! I don’t know that I would have thought to use a fridge like that. I may have to check Cragslist!! Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
Ditto! Please share if your utility bill goes up because of this.
Love all the glass. I’ve just been pricing frosted glass for my new apartment too. The wood coat rack look fantastic beside the frosted panel.
Hi, I have a restaurant and we are very much environment oriented (we built our menu from the produce we found near us, we compost, we buy daily so we don’t throw away food, etc.). So, I had a conversation with my Equipment technician about the efficiency of our fridge like yours. The secret to helping it be the more efficient possible is vaccuming regularly the compressor on top and cleaning it very well at first so that there are no dust accumulated on the parts you’ll find on top !
Otherwise, these restaurant Equipment are not environment friendly but having them work at their best possibilities is the best way to help our earth.
PS : sorry for the poor quality of language but I’m french speaking from Québec 🙂 Did my best to use the right word
What an amazing idea! I love it! Wish we had the room for this! Have you considered painting it a fun color? The black is way cool as is too. 🙂
