I just saw you two on THE NATE SHOW and googled to find your blog right away! I LOVE your style and so wish I was this DIY creative. Im not so for now I am going to probably spend way to much time looking at all of your designs and trying to recreate them for my home! I hope y’all get your own show because I would definatley watch it!!! I didn’t see that you display pictures in your home of family, friends, or you and Tim. I have been trying to figure out some unique ways to display picture of my two babies. Do you have any advice or pictures of ways you have done this???? I would really appreciate it! ~Kellie

Hey Kellie! Thanks for coming over! I’m so happy to hear that we are inspiring you! I love that you want to decorate with photos of your family. You are right, I don’t have too many photos of friends and family hanging on my walls, it just a personal preference thing for me. As far as unique ideas, I would love to give you a few. As a matter of fact, I think I’ll make a blog post out of it. Stay tuned!!
Believe it or not, that stuff above the fireplace are pebbles. We simply applied thin set to a piece of drywall and then pressed the pebbles into it. Pretty fun huh!?
Kara I first saw your work on house.com then on the nate show. I fell in love with the tin headboard. How did you make the edges smooth and not sharp. You have some amazing and beautiful ideas. Thanks for sharing with us. natasha
Kara, I loved your picture of the tin headboard and the wall behind it with the wood. My friend is taking out their old hardwood floors they are in good shape and look nice. I was thinking about putting them on the wall like you did in that room. The thing is the wall I am contemplating doing this too is quite large it spans front eh entry way across the back of the living room and has three open doorways on it. The house is new and my boyfriend is worried about the amount of damage it might do to the wall if we ever remove it or simply don’t like it when we’re finished. Do you have any tips or recommendations on how to out the wood on the wall and how to handle the doorways? Also I loved how you had a white space or board or something to break up the wood… How did you achieve that? Is it a painted piece of wood or and open space??? One last thing, how did you treat the wood before you put it up? I’d love to hear back from you!!! Whitney
Since it would be going on a wall and you wouldn’t be walking on it. You could use a lot less nails than you normally would for a floor to minimize your damage, but you will definitely have nail holes to fill, but that can be pretty easy to fix. How you decide to go around the door ways will depend on how thick the flooring and trim is. Hopefully your trim is thicker than the flooring and you can just but the flooring right up to the trim. If not then I would just sand and stain the ends of my boards and learn to live with it. I don’t know that it will be worth the effort to pull all your trim, extend your jams, and rerun your trim. The white space is just a board painted white. Kara ended up adding a blue “white wash” on the boards, but besides that we didn’t add any finish. We liked the look and didn’t want to mess up the rustic look with a different sheen.
It really was a great project, but we knew this would be staying up the whole time we would be at the house so it was worth it to us. I don’t know if Kara could convince me to take it on if I knew there was much of a chance I would be the one taking it back down. If you decided to take it on send us some picks of the finished project or post them to our facebook wall. Thanks for checking us out!
