Look who is here for back to back posts. I figure if all the NBA players are having to pull a few extra doubles because of the shortened season, why can’t I. I know all of you love my basketball references so I will try to include as many as possible in today’s post.
Kara’s favorite part of her job at Anthropologie was getting to do the window displays. Kara’s favorite part of her life is getting to work on projects with me. So last week was like making the game winning shot for her. She got to work on a window display WITH ME!

I think Kara was missing her Anthro job a little bit and after working with her on this display I can see why. I had a BLAST unwrapping thousands of straws and seeing who ended up with the bigger hot glue gun burn blister. I don’t know how she ever left. I always sympathized with her interns having to take directions from her, but I gained a whole new level of respect for them this week.
I am just kidding. It wasn’t so bad. Kara and I do have a great time working together. We’re like Stockton and Malone running the pick and role.
If you haven’t already figured it out we used lots of straws to create these shiny icicle like tubes.
We cut two pieces of plywood to fit on the ceiling of the space. This allowed us to assemble the installation at our house and then transport and install them in one piece.
Kara is much more of a artist than I am. If she had her way this is how the windows would stay. She would prefer to leave out the merchandise, but she understands that just art doesn’t always pay the bills.
Kara decided she wanted the installation to have a ombre effect and have the colors fade into one another. We left the straws clear at the top and then faded into gold and finally silver. The overall effect is very “antarti-chic.” Yes, this is a new phrase that I am coining. Feel free to use it whenever you want but get your pens ready for those royalty checks.
These post tend to be photo heavy. We do our best to get shots from as many angles as possible to try and give you a real sense of how the installation feels in the space. You have to use the back board when shoot at these angles.
Kara loves the crystal lighting effect created by the light shining through the straws at night.
I think we were able to chose products and props for the windows that complimented our design and didn’t distract too much from our creation. Although you can’t see as much of it as Kara would like, we feel like it definitely creates an awesome backdrop that will draw people into the store.
We also feel like our display represents the type of store that Ida is- a very artistic place that celebrates and sells unique items. . . and tiny little Tom’s shoes.
Kara’s not ready for children, but that didn’t stop her from going on and on about how “adorable” those “teeny tiny shoes” are.
Well, that’s the buzzer folks. We are out of time. Did you enjoy our newest window display?

This gave me a really good laugh this morning. Very well……written:)
Love the display – it looks great. I’ve always wanted to check out their store – I might go this week so I can see this too!
Love the window display, and love the basketball references! Ha!
Great post Tim!
I really like it! And photo heavy posts are the best:) I like to see what you are creating!
Just wanted to know that I’ve recently come across your blog and have enjoyed the beautiful art and people that I’ve found. The fact that you guys love Jesus is the cake and your reference to Stockton and Malone (grew up in Utah, still have two cats with these names) just became the icing. Keep on doing what you’re doing, I’m a huge admirer of your work and spirit. =)
Shannon <><
Leslie- you should definitely check them out, they sell a lot of unique and Tulsa centric items. You should try the sprite with real sugar, it’s the best.
I am glad you all liked the post, I am always curious to see people’s reaction to my writing, because my tone doesn’t always make it through the internet very well.
Shannon- I normally only like chocolate cake, but we like to try new foods.
Nice basketball references, it added a nice layer to your post! I love it when someone can take something as simple as straws and make it into art. Looks awesome! I drove by that store a ton and never got myself in there to check it out before I moved. I like all the photos too, I guess that comes with being a photographer.
I love this heavy basketball lingo heavy post. The window display is also incredible.
I’d say that was a three-pointer of a post. (lame? ok. I’ll leave the references to you Tim). Seriously though- you guys did an awesome job.

I had no idea there would be so many basketball fans. I should have known y’all wouldn’t mind, because when Kara read it she didn’t make me delete it. When I wrote it, I didn’t think there was any chance she would let me post it. She sure knows what you girls like. Basketball and Straws!
