Happy New Year From NYC

Happy New Year From NYC

Happy New Year Friends!  We are multiple days into our NYC trip and we are having a great time. We even spent last night in Times Square! More about that later though. We’ve done a tiny bit of sight seeing, but mainly we’ve been enjoying the adventure of eating delicious food, exploring a million different shops and boutiques, dancing, and just being in the city and soaking up it’s energy.

One of the main reasons Tim and I come to NYC is to be creatively inspired.  More than other places, people and stores seem to put more work into making their spaces different, unqiue, and well put together.  We visit some chain stores, like Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters every time we travel because of the unique personality in each store.  If I’m honest, I haven’t been blown away by the the 2 Anthros we’ve visited thus far, but we still have two more to go!

I thought this wall at Urban was interesting and eye catching and I’m pretty sure we have multiple pieces of OSB/wood that look like this laying around the shop.  Sometimes the scrap pieces in a wood shop can become quite a piece of art.

We went to a couple of flea markets during this trip.  Of course, there are always interesting pieces to see in places like this.  I will say that finding vintage modern furniture and lighting in NYC is way easier than in Tulsa, but the prices are so much higher here.  After “fleaing” in both places, I have to say Tulsa/Jenks (supposedly the antique capital of the world) really does hold it’s own… although we definitely lack in the mid century mod furniture dept. in Oklahoma.  Here are some of of the treasures I posted on my Instagram from our flea adventures.

Of course, we’ve also visited multiple higher end boutiques and stores.  Kate Spade and Jonathan Adler were two places I found inspiration.  I feel like JA and I have a somewhat similar style.  We both have a love for color and pattern, so I always love visiting his store and seeing his pieces.

I’ve never bought anything from Kate Spade, but I loved the metal screens in the store, as well as the gold foil flowers on the wall.   The screens were especially enticing to me because of the bow shape that is found when you look a little bit closer- telling the story with design…..love it!

This obscure pic of a window installation is more of what I was hoping to find inspiration wise on this trip, but so far interesting installations have been hard to come by.

Well, we’ve got more exploring to do! Talk soon!
