Inspired By….

Hey, hey Friends!  Happy Monday!  Today I am sharing more inspiration from our NYC trip!  Yay!

This time around, Tim and I were less inspired by giant artistic installations (although there were a few of those to be revealed later this week) and more stirred by individual pieces.  Great rooms have both those wow factors and those perfectly curated small moments in my opinion. I like to pick smaller accessories to stand on their own, but I also like to take the techniques and the general style of an individual piece and figure out how I can make that into a bigger and more impactful statement.  Here’s what we found that sparked some creativity.

Above left: Sculptural pieces are great for any room. This piece created with thin strips of wood made me think about how easy this idea would be to add interesting shapes to table scapes or creating a 3-D texture on a wall. Above right: I love glass bell jars and interesting lighting. This piece combines the two and I love its old world whimsical charm!

Above left: My obsession with gold continues. I am currently on the hunt for a set of gold cutlery. I have seen some great options out there but I’m really hoping to score a vintage set at estate sale for a steal! Above right: Hanging animal heads is in. I really liked this color combo and how sophisticated it feels.

Above left: I know some people aren’t into weaponry becoming decor. But I’m kinda loving the idea…especially for the right client! These book ends are a great way to add a small, interesting moment to a space. Plus, I’m pretty sure I could DIY those in a few minutes! Above right: I love cutting boards, especially the old ones. They add so much character to a kitchen! There are lots of fun cutting boards out there, but I particularly loved the two tone effect of these guys! And of course, I would think about changing out the color for something more poppy!

Above left: Speaking about adding sculptural pieces to a space, I love these wood stackable wood blocks that beg for interaction from onlookers. Interaction=connection and I always want people to connect with my designs. Plus, they just look cool. Above right: This collection of pieced together magnifying glasses seem like something you would find in a slightly crazy scientists lab. I think they’re pretty fun!

Above left: I loved the raw wood of this simple console, but I especially loved the unique addition of a routed out portion of the piece, creating a built in tray of sorts. Above right: I’ve said before that museum stores are some of my favorite places to find fun, artful accessories. I love this pliable sculpture of balls that once again call for interaction. Plus, they’re so colorful! 🙂

Above left: I love trays. I find myself using them all the time to bring a feeling of order to table and countertops. This tray was a fun find- with a pattern created from old hardback books, I thought it would be a beautiful addition to any space. Above right: I’m really into table wear right now. I think it’s because I am getting anxious for our kitchen to be done and I’m planning on open shelving. Open shelving means I need some beautiful plates, bowls, and glasses! Love this organic feeling collection!

More inspiration to come! See you tomorrow!

Beautiful finds! Thanks for the inspiration! I’m going to find something sculptural to play with for an end table in my living room like the wooden blocks or colorful balls. 🙂
