KITCHEN ISLAND TOTAL TRANSFORMATION- ONLY $50
In previous pictures you may have noticed a smaller island in my cottage kitchen.Truth is, it was simply a prop for a picture but never meant to be a permanent piece. What I wanted was an island with time-worn character.

This table appeared to be a piece of junk to most but I saw the possibility for it to be just what I was looking for.I immediately fell in love with tabletop, which seemed like it could have spent many years in a country farmhouse. The red paint was sucking the life right out of this potential eye popper.By sanding it down to the raw wood and staining the top I have created a stunning centerpiece to complete my kitchen.

I also added a shelf and some height (by attaching bun feet which are actually porch finials) that makes the island ideal for preparing food. The extra shelf is also helpful because it creates supplementary storage! You can never have too much storage space, especially in a kitchen.

At first, the crisp colored paint was just not in line with the look I was going for, so I used a stain to dull down the color and amp up the charm!

Thank you for mentioning how you used the stain to tone down the paint color. I have a furniture painting project in my future and that will be just the right touch.

The shelf is actually made from cabinets I tore out in the old kitchen! I love reusing and recycling. I am not sure what type of wood it is but if you are going to paint it, anything will work!
