If you saw this looker on the side of the road, would you pick her up?
Would you look past her tattered clothes, bumps, and bruises? Would you hear her calling out for love? Would you desire to heal her?
Or would you pass by her with a disapproving glare thinking “How did you let yourself get to this point?” Or maybe you would ignore her altogether trying not to feel guilty for your lack of love.
The moment I saw her I was taken aback. Not by her disgusting state of being but by her beauty. I instantly saw beauty. She was perfect.
So I got to work cleaning her up. I filled her stomach with stuffing, treated her wounds, and began to prepare her for a grand purpose. The change in her was becoming evident.
And when the last staple was secured I stepped back to admire my creation. I saw what I had made and it was very good!”
There are times when I stop and take time to remember why I design. It is what I love, but besides that it is how I resemble my Savior Jesus Christ. If you were wondering why I referred to the rocker as “her” it’s because I was using it to personify my own journey.
You see there was a time when I felt used by the world. When I felt my only value came from how I looked or how I preformed. And when I failed, I felt worthless (just like this rocker that I paid a lousy $5 for).
But then something life-changing happened. I met the most wonderful man. His name is Jesus. And just like I loved that rocker the moment I saw it, He loved me, my imperfections and all. And as I began to spend more time with Jesus, I felt his affection for me. And at a particular moment on September 2, 2000 I decided to trust Him with everything. I presented my whole heart and life to Him.
He changed me and made me new. He gave me a purpose. His love is like NO other. It is a love that has no limitations and no expectations. It is a PERFECT love. Jesus is LOVE and he offers Himself to anybody and everybody willing to let Him in.

Kara: This post is absolutely beautiful! I’m so amazed by your creativity but more importantly your passion to do what God has called you to do! I love the rocking chair but I love the symbolism even more!
Wow! That turnaround is amazing! You did a beautiful job and I love the analogy.
how did you repair the wood damage? that looks difficult! beautiful job
who’s nursery is this????? do you have something to share????
So happy for you having met our wonderful saviour. His love is indeed like no other. Thanks for sharing!
Love the rocker btw.
Well Mrs. J, I have to stay your assumptions are wrong. 🙂 This is actually my new nephew’s nursery. 🙂 So sorry to disappoint you.
And Aevan Arts I used a product called BONDO to repair the wood. And it’s not too hard to use. Anyone could do it with a little instruction. 🙂
I have to admit, when I first saw this chair and started reading your description of it, the first thing that came to my mind was, “I wonder if this is how my sin looks to my Savior?” Praise the Lord, He can make all things new! Thanks for sharing this. I too, remember a time when my worth was caught up in how well I performed and how when that time was over, i questioned my purpose. I’m so thankful that I was reminded of my ULTIMATE purpose!
Keep up the awesome work!!
Very moving and quite an appropriate analogy. I have to say that you’ve inspired me to look beyond terrible damage when hunting for vintage furniture. I’ve been dying to reupholster some old pieces, but I always felt like the damage was too deep. I now see that almost anything can be saved!
You did a beautiful job! And the colors of the room & rocker are so serene.
Amazing! But how in the world did you fix the wood that was all chewed up on the end?? You did such a great job, and I LOVE the gray fabric! 🙂
