Today there is more inspiration coming at you from our quick trip to St. Louis last weekend. I don’t think that Tulsa has a Nordstrom’s but even if we do, I have probably never been in it. I don’t spend a lot of time in department stores. But if I knew they were each designed as fun as the Nordstrom’s in St. Louis’ Galleria, I would be a frequent guest! 🙂
I ran into the store because I had gotten to the mall a few minutes before 10 and I was waiting for Urban Outfitters to open. Not one to waste time, I opted to run through Nordstrom’s just to make sure I wasn’t missing out on anything. It turns out I was!
There were a number of interesting and really cool individual displays, like this egg shaped seat from Free People. . .
But the real surprise came when I walked past the dressing room area! Normally department stores’ dressing rooms are purely functional, not decked out with tons of color, texture, and cool furniture pieces!
I was in love with the gold snake skin wall paper! Or is that alligator? Either way- love, love, love. . .
The lounging area (yes, I said lounging area!) is very “Jonathan Adler.” It’s a mostly black and white design coupled with vivid pops of color, uncommonly shaped furniture, and whimsical accents that make the space feel super fun and energetic!
Although I was a little disappointed by Anthro and Urban’s displays this time around, they did have a few things that were different from the last time I was in town.
Most of us have seen window walls before, but I still love the look of them. I also love that the Urban display artist made this wall feel different by painting and etching different patterns on some of the glass.
I’m a fan of canopies over beds. I think they add such a romantic feel to a room. Anthro’s all over have been showcasing different canopy ideas made from canvas drop cloths. Here’s STL’s take on the idea.
What a great look for a fashionista’s home, right!?
If you visit Anthro regularly, you may have noticed there has been a focus on cardboard for some of their displays. I saw some cool ideas and this chandelier is definitely one of them.
No budget for design? Anthro is leaving you with no excuses! 🙂 Cardboard can be found for free and I bet you guys could create some pretty amazing stuff with it! 🙂
Well, that concludes our post for today. Are your creative juices flowing? Mine are, so I’m off to create! ‘Til tomorrow!

Beautiful set of design.
thanks for giving st. louis some love again!!! it seems like our city often gets overlooked or written off a lot in comparison to the larger cities, but we do have some neat things to offer too! that nordstrom just opened last year so it is quite nice 🙂
I was kind of taken by the wall treatment behind the canopy bed. It looks like woven paper or me, but I’d love to see some close up shots if you have any.
