I hope you all had a Merry Christmas!!! It was really nice for Tim and I to unplug for a few days and focus on our families! Hopefully you were able to do the same! There’s always something about the start of a new year that makes us want to take life by the horns and fix all those “issues” in our lives. Really, it’s very fitting that Christmas comes right before the new year because the birth of Christ meant a new beginning for all of us. For Tim and I it has meant a life with peace beyond understanding, joy beyond circumstances, and love that knows no boundaries (at least when we’re living in the spirit and not in the flesh). For those of you that have no idea what I’m talking about just know this-9 years ago Jesus filled all those holes in my heart that I was trying to fill with all sorts of other things. He and only He has made me whole.
The Lamp (you know that movie I worked on) has a great story line of new beginnings as well. As a matter of fact, the home office serves to show the kind of chaos that is occurring in the main characters life. The first couple of times you see it, it looks something like this and worse.

As the character moves through his issues and pain however, the office also begins to transform. And eventually both the character and the room end up being cleaned up, renewed, and fully functioning. Here’s how the office looks in the end.
Now, let’s talk design. This needed to be a manly office, so I used lot’s of wood, aged metal, sports mementos, and of course a cowhide rug. I LOVE cowhide rugs! I chose to put the desk in the center of the room with bookshelves behind it to create an incredible focal point. It also uses the space really well. If you are having trouble arranging your furniture at home, think about moving your pieces off the wall to create a great flow and feel throughout the space.
Do you like that tall wood and metal shelf? It’s a custom creation that Tim built a while ago as a prototype. We’re so excited that some of Tim’s furniture will soon be in a feature film! For those of you that are interested, Tim is available to do all sorts of custom furniture. Shoot me an e-mail if you would like to work with him!
The right side of the room holds an “idea board” which every author has to have. Did I mention the main character (Stan) is a writer? You can also start to sense that Stan is a sports fan by the hanging bats, old stadium seating and, and the worn glove in the bookshelf.
Of course every writer would have a plethora of books, so we had this custom bookshelf built to hold a number of them. I also added a bunch of other interesting items like: old typewriters, vases, storage boxes, baseball stuff, and more. They all come together to create lovely very manly vignettes.

Tucked in one of the corners is a seating area with a couple of fantastic old lockers, a baseball bat stool, and old style floor lamp.

And there you have it, a finished office fit for a sports fan. Stay tuned for a few more fun posts from the movie house before we move on for good!
I was admiring the metal/wood shelf before you mentioned it was Tim’s creation. It rocks! I also love the wood theater chairs and the lockers.
Was this a real house or a stage? Love the spacious room.
Hey Yanet! Tim will be happy to hear you like his shelf! To answer your question, this was a real house. We had to work with a lot of the positives and negatives that real homeowners have to deal with. Of course we did have ways to hide or change certain things when we had to. 🙂
