I was planning on sharing an interview with one of the cast members of The Lamp today, but since this is a DESIGN blog, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t losing your interest. So, I have opted to share one of my favorite rooms in the house with you today!
As I talked with the Production Designer and Director about what they envisioned for the master bedroom, it was voiced that this room should obviously be the wife’s domain. Meaning mainly that it should be quite a bit more glamorous and girly than the rest of the house. The room was completely empty when we started and here’s how it turned out!
Some of you long time readers may recognize a few pieces from my own house. I didn’t want the room to look all brand new, but rather like it had been decorated over time. The problem with that was I had 2 weeks to furnish, decorate, and perfect an entire house. . . so there was NO time for me to create original pieces. My solution was to use things from my own house that would work. I also scoured local flea markets to find one-of-a-kind pieces with some real personality! Chris Rose (the Production Designer) picked out the beautiful headboard, dresser, and night stands which definitely gave me an idea of where he wanted this design to go
So, I’ve told you about the new trend I am starting– tying your scarf in a bow. So, of course I outfitted this dress form with her very own! Much to my delight, all the girls on set LOVED it and quickly dubbed it the “Kara Bow.” It was seen all over set during the rest of shooting! I was SO excited! Most of these ladies are from LA and work in the TV/film industry (as stylists, make-up artsits, and actresses) and they told me they would definitely take the trend to hip streets of HOLLYWOOD!!! They really think this could catch on!!! Yay!
Of course every truly glamorous bedroom needs a vanity area. So, here’s the one I created for Lisa (the wife/mother in the movie).
I LOVED that bust from the moment I set eyes on her. She looks like a greek goddess to me, so elegant and lovely. Maybe I will call her Aphrodite.
One of my favorite elements in the room was the painted wall paper panels that I added to the wall behind the bed. When I got them they were white. I painted a layer of dark gray first, then added a gold glaze which created this glorious dimension (which is so important for the camera).
So, what do you think? Just wait until you see this room in the movie! Our lighting crew is amazing and the they really made the room glow. It was gorgeous!

It’s beautiful Kara, awesome job! You’re always an inspiration! I was wondering what exactly you did to cover the cord in the plug-in pendant light? Thanks!!
That is one incredible room. I love all the little touches to it. So pretty!
The painted wall paper wall panels added to the wall behind the bed is gorgeous and glamorous looking. The panels give the bedroom a unique, modern look. Wall paneling can enhance your home. It’s amazing all the different kinds of wall panels that are available. Wall paneling is a great way to enhance room or buildings. It is used as interior decorations and divide wall spaces fashionably. For anyone interested in finding the options available for decorative or nondecorative wall panels, I recommend checking out McGraw Hill’s Sweets directory. While I am currently working for them, I can honestly tell you that the directory of construction products they offer is both useful and complete, with listings of the products and manufacturers available, as well as other information. They are definitely worth researching.
Amazing. I wish i could take this entire room and put it in my house.
I love all of it, Kara!
I especially love that grey and white pillow on the bed. I think I need something similar for my guest room, haha.
Where is the bedding from? I love it!
Hey Molly! The bedding is from Target! Thanks for reading the blog!
